The invention concerns a method for manufacturing pipes coated with a peelable protection layer, wherein the core pipe (1) is produced by extruding and calibrating, after which the surface of core pipe (1) is heated before a protecting coating layer (7a) is applied onto the core pipe (1) on passing through a coating die (7) , followed by cooling the applied coating layer (7a) before the readily coated pipe (9) is drawn out of the process. Polyolefin coated steel pipes with high dynamic fracture toughness of the coating of the steel pipes during installation handling and in service, consisting of a steel pipe core, optionally an intermediate foamed plastic material, and a polyolefin coating of β-nucleated propylene copolymers whereby a test polyolefin pipe fabricated from the β-nucleated propylene copolymer has a critical pressure of >25 bars and a dynamic fracture toughness >3.5 MNm-3/2. The polyolefin coated steel pipes are suitable for off-shore transport of crude oil or gas products or district heating applications.

In one aspect, the article comprises a first layer (6), a second layer (8), and an adhesive (10) which is capable of swelling the first layer. In another aspect, the article has a thickness of 10x and comprises a first polymeric backing layer (6) which contains a particulate filler, and has a thickness which is at least 0.13 mm and is 1x to 5x, and a second polymeric inner layer (8) which contains substantially no particulate filler, and has a thickness of 5x to 9x. Also disclosed is an assembly in which an article of the invention is in contact with a substrate (4), e.g., a pipe, a pier, or a support element for a structure. Articles of the invention are particularly useful in protecting steel pipes and gas risers from corrosion in areas such as the splash zone (18) in which they are subject to heavy wave action.

The non-reactive interior tube (18) may be made of a suitable polymeric material.

Zur Vermeidung umweltschädlicher schwermetallhaltiger, insbesondere bleihaltiger Zusätze weist die auf Basis von Weich-PVC bestehende wärme- und/oder schallisolierende Hülle eines Leitungsrohrs, beispielsweise für die Hausinstallation, neben 20 bis 40 Gew.% Kreide als Füllstoff und 20 bis 30 Gew.% langkettig verzweigter Phtalsäureester als Weichmacher noch 1 bis 3 Gew.% eines bleifreien Stabilisators auf. Vorzugsweise kann als Stabilisatorsystem eine organische Kalzium- und Zink-haltige Verbindung verwendet werden, bei der das Verhältnis von Kalzium zu Zink im Bereich von 3 : 1 bis 30 : 1 liegt.
