摘要: Much of the image processing that is applied to medical images is a form of "inverse problem". This is a class of mathematical problems in which a "forward" model by which a signal is converted into dataset is known, to at least some degree, but where the aim is to reconstruct the signal given the resulting dataset. Thus, an inverse problem is essentially seeking to discover x given knowledge of A(x)+noise by finding an appropriate reconstruction operator A † such that A † (A(x)+noise) ≈ x, thereby enabling us to obtain x (or a close approximation) given knowledge of an output dataset consisting of A(x)+noise. Generally, several such processes (or their equivalents) are applied to the image dataset. If the first process (for example, noise reduction) is expressed via a first reconstruction operator A 1 † characterised by a parameter set Θ 1 , and the second process (for example, segmentation) is expressed via a second reconstruction operator A 2 † characterised by a parameter set Θ 2 , then the result of the two steps applied consecutively is A 2 † ( A 1 † ( y )). This can be expressed as an overall reconstruction operator F † , characterised by a parameter set Φ. If we then allow a machine learning process to optimise F † , then the steps previously carried out separately can be combined into a single optimisation. This yields advantages in terms of computational load and in the accuracy of the end result.

摘要: The present invention recognises and eliminates from a biomagnetic measurement signal interferences whose source is disposed in the direct vicinity of an object being measured. The invention utilises the SSS method that can be used to separate from one another the signals associated with the internal and external sources of a set of measurement sensors by calculating two series developments. The sources to be examined in the invention and disposed in the so-called intermediate space produce a component to both of the developments, and can, therefore, be detected by means of an analysis to be performed in a time domain. This division into components can be made using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA), the Independent Component Analysis (ICA) or the Singular Value Decomposition. Finally, the clarified interferences in the intermediate space can be eliminated from the measured signal using, for example, the linear algebraic orthogonal projection.

摘要: A radiotherapy apparatus comprises a source for producing a beam of ionising radiation along an axis, the beam covering a maximum aperture of the source, a collimator for collimating the beam to produce a collimated beam covering a sub-part of the maximum aperture, a patient support positioned in the path of the beam, a rotatable gantry, on which the source is mounted, for rotating the source around the patient support thereby to deliver the beam from a range of directions, an imaging device located opposite the source and with the patient support between the source and the imaging device, and mounted on the gantry via a drive member allowing translational motion of the imaging device in at least one direction perpendicular to the axis, and a control unit adapted to control the drive member to move the imaging device within the maximum aperture and maintain coincidence between the imaging device and the sub-part of the maximum aperture. Accordingly, the EPID can be moved during the treatment in order to maintain the collimated field of the radiation beam within the bounds of the EPID. This ensures that the image is valid and prevents damage to the EPID as a result of exposure of more sensitive (or less shielded) parts to the beam.

摘要: The valve of an active breathing control (ABC) device can be driven by the output of the navigator channel of the MRI scanner, rather than by inference from a measured breath flow rate. Where the MRI scanner is integrated with a radiotherapy device, the MRI data can be used to trigger the enforced breath-hold by the ABC, and the radiotherapy delivered while the ABC valve is shut. If the MRI data pertains to the actual position of the tumour, then the ABC device will (in effect) hold the tumour at a precise and reproducible point for treatment.

摘要: The disclosed systems and methods for Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), utilises an iterative approach which adjusts a treatment plan based on inter- or intra-fraction images to improve the accuracy of the radiation delivered during the overall treatment. The prescribed dose of radiotherapeutic radiation is mapped onto the patient's anatomy using an image acquired of the region, which is to be the target for radiotherapeutic radiation. Following beam-angle-optimisation, fluence optimisation and segmentation, the efficiency of delivery of each segment is determined using an objective function, and the segments ranked according to their efficiency. The plan proceeds with the choice of the most efficient segment (or segments) to be delivered first. When this radiation has been delivered, having been tracked to establish its distribution, this delivered distribution can be subtracted from the original prescribed dose and the process repeated so that the delivered radiation gradually converges on the original prescribed dose.
