The invention is directed to a method for monitoring the quality of selective catalytic reduction agents, in particular for monitoring the quality of NH 3 producing reagents, such as urea solutions. The method of the present invention allows for determining the equivalent NH 3 concentration of any selective catalytic reduction reagent that forms NH 3 upon heating. Subsequently, the amount of injected reagent can be adjusted to the measured equivalent NH 3 concentration in order to optimise the NO x reduction.

From the ROM (26) storing information on tax according to emission amount, the CPU (22) obtains the tax information. The display (42) displays the obtained tax value corresponding to the detected emission amount. The CPU (22) carries out a tax payment procedure through the communication unit (30) by sending the information on the emission amount to a server (34) of the government office.
