The present invention provides a method for determining whether human cancer cells are sensitive or resistant to a particular drug, to allow for early detection of drug resistance in order to improve significantly the efficiency of a cancer chemotherapy protocol. The method involves the detection of DNA sequences indicative of drug resistance.

A piezoelectric disk (270) is secured to the plunger (230) so as to move the plunger in a reciprocating motion to pump the fluid through the orifice (108).
