    摘要： Techniques for dispensing postage using a communication network such as the Internet. A postage vendor system (PVS) is assigned a single postal license number by a postal authority, such as the USPS, and is used by the PVS to cater to postage requests from a plurality of unrelated users who may be at different geographical addresses. The PVS may comprise a plurality of server systems and may receive requests to purchase stamps from one or more user systems. In response to the postage purchase requests, the PVS may generate information for printing indicia corresponding to the stamp requests based upon the single postal license number associated with the PVS. The PVS may then communicate the information for printing the indicia to the one or more user systems. The user systems may print the indicia based upon the information for printing the indicia received from the PVS.

    摘要： A system and method is provided for printing an advertisement for insertion into a mailpiece. A customer computer system (150) communicates with a mailing service provider data processing system (80). The customer computer system (150) transmits to the mailing service provider data processing system (80) an electronic copy of at least one mailing address and at least one corresponding document to be mailed to the mailing address. The mailing address is cleansed as necessary by the mailing service provider data processing system (80), which then identifies a subset of third party advertisements available for insertion into a mailpiece to be assembled with the corresponding document. Enclosures to be printed from the subset of third party advertisements are selected by the customer or automatically by mailing service provider data processing system based on advertisement profiles. The corresponding document and the selected enclosures are printed and then inserted into an envelope to form the assembled mailpiece.

    摘要： A postage metering system includes a plurality of printer modules (20, 22) operatively connected as part of a network (10) and operating as client printer modules on the network. A postal security device (40) (PSD) is coupled directly to a local one of the client printer modules (20, 22). The PSD (40) includes unique identification, postal value storage and a digital signature generator. The client printer modules (20, 22) function as a postage metering network (10) wherein one of the client printer modules remote to the PSD (40) requests evidence of postage payment from the PSD (40) through the local client printer module for concluding postage metering transactions. The local client printer module functions as a stand-alone meter when requests for evidence of postage payment from the PSD are initiated at the local client printer module. The local client printer module initiates local requests for evidence of postage payment to be printed at the local client printer modules and receives remote requests for evidence of postage payment from the remote client printer modules. The remote requests include identification of the remote client printer modules. The local client printer module sends each request for evidence of postage payment to the PSD (40) and receives from the PSD (40) the evidence of postage payment including a digital signature corresponding to each request for evidence of postage payment;. The local client printer module sends the evidence of postage payment to the remote client printer modules in response to the remote request, and prints the evidence of postage payment in response to the local request.
