A pair of elastic holding portions 23 are hanging from the opposite sides of the rear end of the connection portion 21. When the terminal fitting 20 is mounted into a terminal cavity 11, the elastic holding portions 23 are brought into contact with the inner walls of the terminal cavity 11 by their elastic force. As a result, the displacement of the terminal fitting 20, in other words, the shake of the solder portion 22B can be prevented.

When a terminal fitting 3 is inserted into a cavity 2 of a connector housing 1, stabilizers 6 formed on the terminal fitting 3 fit with a retainer 8 attached to the housing 1 in order to prevent removal of the terminal fitting 3. The portion of the stabilizer 6 that makes contact with the retainer 8 is formed into a bent member 7 that projects in an approximately perpendicular direction with respect to the direction of removal of the terminal fitting 3. By doing this, the bent member 7 has increased resistance to a load applied in the removal direction and resists damage to the retainer 8.

Electrical connector for mounting on the surface of a printed circuit board, comprising a housing made of electrically insulating material provided with a number of channels for the accommodation of contact elements. The contact elements are provided with a contact end for contacting a further contact element of a further connector, a connection end projecting beyond the bottom surface of the housing, for connecting the contact element to a corresponding connection face on the surface of the printed circuit board, and a base part extending between the contact end and the connection end. The contact element is slidable in the lengthwise direction in the channel from a predetermined mounting starting position to an end position. The contact element has on at least one side wall a lip, the free end of which projects beyond said side walls and lies in a recess of the channel wall. The contact element is provided on opposite side walls and near the connection end with elevations which project beyond the corresponding side walls, are made so that they are resilient at right angles thereto, and rest with a predetermined pre-tension against the adjacent channel side wall. In the mounting starting position the free end of the lip rests against a collar on the bottom side of the recess.

An electrical connector (10) includes a stamped and formed sheet metal terminal (22) having a generally cylindrical mating portion (32) with an open seam (34) longitudinally thereof. A flexible latch flange (36) projects transversely from the mating portion on each side of the seam. A dielectric housing (12) has rigid walls defining an elongated terminal-receiving passageway (14) for receiving the mating portion of the terminal. An elongated groove (16) is formed in the walls communicating with the passageway for receiving the latch flanges (36) projecting from the mating portion. The groove has side walls diverging from a wide mouth end (16a) of the groove to a narrow latch end (16b) thereof. The side walls of the groove are adapted to engage the latch flanges (36) and resiliently compress the mating portion (32) of the terminal. The latch end (16b) of the groove has an abruptly enlarged latch section (18) into which the latch flanges snappingly interengage to lock the terminal in the passageway. The latch flanges project from an outside face of the housing to provide access to the latch flanges, as by an appropriate tool, for unlatching the terminal.

The connector comprises a connector housing having a terminal accommodating chamber therein, a flexible engagement arm provided to the inner wall of the terminal accommodating chamber of the connector housing, the flexible arm extending forwardly, and engagement portion formed in a terminal for engagement with the tip of the flexible engagement arm, engagement pieces at each side of the engagement portion of the terminal, and engagement projection formed at each side of the flexible engagement arm, the engagement projections each having a vertical shoulder surface at the front and a tapered slope at the back thereof. The shoulder surfaces of the engagement projections are engaged with the rear edges of the engagement pieces of the terminal while at the same time the flexible engagement arm tip is engaged with the engagement portion of the terminal to provide a double locking for preventing the terminal from slipping off from the rear of the connector housing.
