A metallic sleeve (20) may be pressed with relatively low axial forces onto a softer metallic shaft (12) to produce a permanent interference fit between the sleeve and the shaft even if subject to high torque loads. For this purpose, the sleeve incorporates a plurality of successively reduced diameter, axially spaced, arrays (52, 54, 56) of splines (50) within its interior, with a series of spaced circumferentially extending grooves (30, 32, 34) situated between the arrays. The arrays of splines define angled frontal cutting edges (60, 62, 64) adapted to cut into the metal shaft for rigid securement of sleeve to shaft. The spaced grooves are adapted to collect chip debris (36, 38, 40) during installation of the sleeve to the shaft, each groove providing a volumetric space to provide for the uniform distribution of chip debris within the interface of sleeve and shaft. The sleeve to shaft securement structure can minimize part distortion, particularly when critical external geometry of the sleeve is to be maintained.

The device of the invention relates to the occasional recovery of heat from the exhaust gases where the invention carries out this function such that the main conduit where the exhaust gases circulate is not affected by a noticeable increase in heat loss due to the incorporation of said device. It provides a heat exchanger (3.6) and a bypass flap valve (3.8) upstream for selectively diverting the exhaust gases to the main exhaust conduit (1) or to the heat exchanger (3.6).

The present invention is a flow deflector suitable for a heat exchanger of the type consisting of at least one core made up of tubes forming a bundle arranged inside a shell and at least one baffle. The deflector according to the invention is an easily manufactured part independent from the construction of the bundle of tubes and of the baffle which allows modifying the coolant fluid or liquid flow path with greater freedom than that achieved by combining internal openings in the baffle or baffles. Another object of this invention is the heat exchanger obtained using the deflector for optimising coolant liquid flow path. The application of the invention in heat exchangers for EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) systems is of special interest.

A two-stage, variable force, solenoid control valve (10) for regulating fluid pressure can include a valve body (12) having a pilot fluid passage (14), including a metering land (16), in fluid communication with a flow amplifying fluid passage (18) through a valve control port (20) formed in the valve body (12). A solenoid operated pilot valve member (22), disposed in the pilot fluid passage (14), can have a metering orifice (24) operable in combination with the metering land (16) for selectively connecting the valve control port (20) with a pressurized fluid supply port (26) and a return exhaust port (28) in response to activation of a solenoid (34). A flow amplifying spool valve member (30), in fluid communication with the valve control port (20) of the pilot valve member (22) at one end (30a), can selectively connect a load control port (32) with the pressurized fluid supply port (26) and the return exhaust port (28) in response to pilot valve member (22) operation.
