It is an object of the present invention to provide a styrene type resin composition excellent in thermal stability, hue, fluidity, and heat resistance, and also having the flame retardant performance, and a molded product excellent in outward appearance, formed therefrom. The present invention provides a flame retardant styrene type resin composition comprising (A) a styrene type resin (component A) in an amount of 100 parts by weight, (B) a polyphenylene ether type resin (component B) in an amount of 0 to 100 parts by weight, and (C) an organophosphorus compound (component C) represented by the following formula (1) in an amount of 1 to 100 parts by weight, characterized in that the organophosphorus compound (component C) satisfies:
(i) the weight loss residue on heating at 500°C is 10% or less; (ii) the HPLC purity is 90% or more, and (iii) the acid value is 0.5 mg KOH/g or less
