摘要: Multi-layer thermally imageable elements, useful as a lithographic printing plate precursors, are disclosed. The elements contain a top layer, an absorber layer that contains a photothermal conversion material and a hydrophilic substrate. An optional underlayer may also be present between the absorber layer and the hydrophilic substrate. The elements can be thermally imaged and processed with an aqueous alkaline developer.

摘要: A printable media, including: (a) a substrate having a hydrophilic, porous layer on at least one surface; and (b) an ink receptive, thermoplastic image layer adhered to the hydrophilic, porous layer, where the ink receptive layer contains a copolymer having a low surface energy and a plurality of tertiary amine sites, the amine sites being at least partially neutralized with an acid. The invention also relates to a method for preparing a printable media, including: (a) applying a hydrophilic porous layer onto a substrate; (b) applying a fluid composition onto the hydrophilic porous layer by means of an ink jet printing apparatus, where the fluid composition contains a copolymer having a plurality of tertiary amine sites, the amine sites being at least partially neutralized with an acid; and (c) drying the composition.

摘要: A method for producing a predetermined resist pattern on e.g. a lithographic printing plate, circuit board or mask comprises the imagewise exposure of a radiation sensitive diazide-containing coating (conventionally considered as a UV sensitive material), to non-UV radiation, such as direct heat radiation or infra-red radiation. A positive of the exposed image is revealed on development. Additionally, it has been found that a flood exposure to UV radiation after the imagewise exposure to the non-UV radiation means that a negative of the exposed image is revealed, on development.

摘要: A method for producing a predetermined pattern in a coating on a substrate, the method comprising: the patternwise delivery of heat to the coating, the coating comprising a positive working composition; and the application of a developer to the patternwise-heated coating; wherein the composition comprises a polymeric substance, and diazide moieties and a cyanine dye not having a borate anion; wherein the diazide moieties comprise 1,4- or 1,2-benzoquinone diazide (BQD) or 1,4-, 2,1- or 1,2-naphthoquinone diazide (NQD) moieties; wherein the composition has the property that it is developer insoluble prior to the delivery of heat and developer soluble thereafter; wherein the heat is delivered via electromagnetic radiation of wavelength entirely or predominantly in the range 600-1400 nm, the cyanine dye absorbing the electromagnetic radiation and converting it to heat.

摘要: A thermal lithographic printing plate, which can be imaged by thermal energy typically by imagewise exposure with an infrared emitting laser, a thermal printing head, etc., is made up of a hydrophilic substrate, and a composite layer structure composed of two layer coatings. Preferably, the first layer of the composite is composed of an aqueous developable polymer mixture containing a photothermal conversion material which is contiguous to the hydrophilic substrate. The second layer of the composite is composed of one or more non-aqueous soluble polymers which are soluble or dispersible in a solvent which does not dissolve the first layer. The plate is exposed with an infrared laser or a thermal print head, and upon aqueous development of the imaged plate, the exposed portions are removed exposing hydrophilic substrate surfaces receptive to conventional aqueous fountain solutions. The unexposed portions contain the ink-receptive image areas. Alternatively, the composite layer may be free of photothermal conversion material when thermal imaging is carried out using a thermal printing head.

摘要: An imaging member, such as a negative-working printing plate, can be prepared using a hydrophilic imaging layer comprised of a heat-sensitive hydrophilic polymer having a positively charged moiety, and optionally a photothermal conversion material. The heat-sensitive polymer has recurring units containing an N-alkylated aromatic heterocyclic group or an organoonium group that reacts to provide increased oleophilicity in areas exposed to energy that provides or generates heat. For example, heat can be supplied by laser irradiation in the IR region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Thus, the heat-sensitive polymer is considered "switchable" in response to heat, and provides an imaging means without wet processing.

摘要: A method for producing a predetermined resist pattern on for example a lithographic printing plate, circuit board or mask, comprises the imagewise exposure of a radiation sensitive positive working coating using a suitable radiation such as direct heat radiation, UV radiation, visible radiation, infrared radiation or electron beam radiation. The method is characterised by the use of a novel polymeric material which is functionalised by groups Q to render it insoluble in a developer, but such that exposure to the radiation renders it soluble therein. The groups Q are not diazide groups as is conventional, but are groups which do not release nitrogen on exposure to the radiation, and have hydrogen bonding capability. Examples of groups Q are 2-naphthylsulphonyloxy, 2-thienylsulphonyloxy, dansyloxy, p-toluenesulphonyloxy, benzoyloxy and n-butylsulphonyloxy.
