摘要： The present invention relates to highly cross-linked UHMWPE, which is possessed of an improved oxidation resistance, as well as a method for making the same. The UHMWPE material of the current invention is combined with an anti-oxidant compound or a free-radical scavenger prior to formation. Once the UHMWPE with the added material has been formed and treated with gamma or electron bean irradiation, it shows an improved wear resistance and also a good resistance to oxidation. Such a material, is particularly interesting for the field of making replacement joint implants.

摘要： New apparatuses and methods for their design and use are disclosed that can be used to assist a surgeon in placing a guide pin during hip surgery. Specifically, a hip surgery method is disclosed in which an image of a patient's femur can be obtained and used to design and prepare a mold that contains an aperture for guiding a drill at the desired location and angle. During surgery the mold can be quickly and accurately positioned on the exposed femur head. Then, a drill bit can be inserted through the aperture and an opening for a pin can be drilled into the femur head. The mold can have a unique contoured surface adapted to fit to the femur head in a single unique position such that the opening is made in a unique desired position. The apparatuses and methods facilitate faster, more accurate surgery and are less invasive.

摘要： An acetabular liner insertion guide (10) aligns a liner (12) within an acetabular shell. The liner includes a ring (16) and a penetrable layer (14). The ring includes a lip configured to rest on an upper surface of the acetabular shell. The ring is also configured to attach to the liner such that an upper surface of the liner is in a plane that is generally parallel to a plane that includes the upp.er surface of the acetabular shell. The penetrable layer is configured to receive an impactor and overlie the liner. When the insertion guide is placed on the shell and the impactor impacts the liner, the insertion guide separates from the liner and remains on the impactor.
