摘要:
The operating and other procedures of an optical disk application system of the type for which a netwcrk is used are simplified. Optical disks have auxiliary data recording areas, where different IDs for individual disks, and/or cipher keys and/or decoding keys for ciphers are recorded in advance in a factory. By using the IDs to release the soft ciphers, using the cipher keys when sending the ciphers, and using the decoding keys when receiving the ciphers, user authorization procedures are simplified.

摘要:
In an optical disc, an ID field contains a plurality of address information, and is preliminarily recorded in convex and concave signals, and is composed of two sets offset by about 1/2 track pitch toward the internal or external track direction adjacent to the guide track, an information recording field is composed of grooves and lands oscillating at a single frequency in the radial direction, and the grooves and lands alternate in every revolution of the guide track. When w bits of information are included in one period of oscillation, an information unrecorded field between the ID field and information recording field is arranged to have a length of w/10 bits or more and/or w bits or less, and therefore, when recording continuous information data such as video data, it is possible to record continuously by generating a clock securely from the oscillating signal, and moreover, the format efficiency is improved, so that a format of a larger capacity is achieved.

An optical disc comprising a read-only (ROM) field and a rewritable field and a rewritable field has a constant track pitch To in the read-only field and a variable track pitch Tw of the rewritable field, set in a relation of To > = Tw. Thus the data capacity of the disc may be increased by reducing the track pitch Tw of the rewritable field, while compatibility is assured by recording the control information at the known track pitch To in the read-only field.

A digital information playback apparatus comprises an A/D converter (14;19;32) that converts a playback signal into digital data, a maximum likelihood decoder (16;21;33) that decodes the quantized data output from the A/D converter (14;19;32) to obtain the original digital information, and a timing signal extractor (17;22;34) that generates a sampling clock used in the A/D converter (14;19;32) . The maximum likelihood decoder (16;21;33) detects the response characteristic of the record/playback system and obtains level fluctuations contained in the playback signal, based on the survival path obtained as a maximum likelihood decoding result, to control the expected multilevel equalized values used in the maximum likelihood decoder (16;21;33). The timing signal extractor (17;22;34) obtains level fluctuations, based on the survival path obtained as a maximum likelihood decoding result, and obtains the component of the level fluctuations due to phase shifts of the sampling clock to control the phase of the sampling clock.
