摘要: The present invention relates to an apparatus (10) for tracking a position of an interventional device (11) respective an image plane (12) of an ultrasound field. The position includes an out-of-plane distance (Dop). A geometry-providing unit (GPU) includes a plurality of transducer-to-distal-end lengths (Ltde1 . . . n), each length corresponding to a predetermined distance (Ltde) between a distal end (17, 47) of an interventional device (11, 41) and an ultrasound detector (16, 46) attached to the interventional device, for each of a plurality of interventional device types (T1 . . . N). An image fusion unit (IFU) receives data indicative of the type (T) of the interventional device being tracked; and based on the type (T): selects from the geometry-providing unit (GPU), a corresponding transducer-to-distal-end length (Ltde); and indicates in a reconstructed ultrasound image (RUI) both the out-of-plane distance (Dop) and the transducer-to-distal-end length (Ltde) for the interventional device within the ultrasound field.

By detecting changes in the characteristics the presence or absence of an object (2) to be provided at the ultrasound transducer (24, 26) is determined.

摘要: Beamforming to image an object (310), such as an interventional tool, is enhanced by initializing the beamformer (308) with the object's location, and optionally its orientation. The initializing uses an estimate of the location/orientation. The estimate is derived from the output of one or more sensors (304, 306). These are disposed external to the imaging array (316) that operates with the beamformer. The estimate is made without the need for a result of any imaging based on data arriving by reflected ultrasound. One or more of the sensors may be attached to the object, which may be elongated, as in the case of a needle or catheter used in medical diagnosis and treatment. In some implementations, one or more of the sensors are attached to the imaging probe (302). The sensors may be, for example, ultrasound, electromagnetic, optical, or shape sensors. Alternatively, ultrasound transmitting transducers may be substituted for the ultrasound sensors.

摘要: A system for deploying needles in tissue includes a controller and a visual display. A treatment probe has both a needle and tines deployable from the needle which may be advanced into the tissue. The treatment probe also has adjustable stops which control the deployed positions of both the needle and the tines. The adjustable stops are coupled to the controller so that the virtual treatment and safety boundaries resulting from the treatment can be presented on the visual display prior to actual deployment of the system.
