The invention relates to a process for the production of chloramine comprising supplying a first reagent stream comprising chlorine gas and a second reagent stream comprising ammonia gas to a reaction zone maintained at a temperature of less than 275° C and configured to allow expansion of the first and second reagent streams in the reaction zone to an extent sufficient to generate chloramine as a gas and ammonium chloride as a free falling solid. The invention also provides a chemical reactor suitable for operating this process.

A process for the production of monochloramine characterized in that it provides for drawing a portion of water intended for the user and exclusively using said portion for preparing the monochloramine solution. The portion intended for the reaction of formation of monochloramine is subjected to a treatment on osmotic membrane, obtaining osmotized water. Subsequently, there is the reaction of said water with reagents in a reactor. In the reaction step, inside the reactor, the osmotized water enters from a first orifice (C) by means of a solenoid valve with micrometric regulation (EV1). Inside the same reactor, the base chemical products enter by means of the respective orifices A and B. The base chemical products enter due to the action of metering pumps (e.g. peristaltic pumps). The system is managed by PLC.

A method of controlling an exothermic or endothermic chemical reaction is provided. The method involves measuring a temperature of a first reactant flowing at a first flow rate, contacting the first reactant with a second reactant flowing at a second flow rate to form a reaction product, measuring the temperature of the reaction product, and determining the temperature difference between the temperature of the first reactant and the temperature of the reaction product. The method can further involve adjusting the flow rate of at least one of the first reactant and the second reactant, or shutting down flow, based on the temperature difference. An apparatus to carry out the method is also provided. The method and apparatus can be useful in controlling many different reactions, including the reaction of sodium hypochlorite and ammonia to form monochloramine.

A process and reactor for the gas-phase reaction of commercially available gases in the presence of an inert carrier gas to from product gas. The reactor (10) has an outer shell tube (12) and an inner tube (16), both of which feed reaction chamber (18). At last one first commercially available fed gas is fed to outré tube (12) via first inlet (13). One or more inert gases is fed to outer tube (12) via second inlet (14). In the case of chloramines gas formation, chlorine gas reacts with ammonia. Gas at reaction zone (20) in reaction chamber (18), which is heated by one or more heating elements (22). The product gas stream exits reaction chamber (18) via discharge tube (26).

Anhydrous hydrazine and hydrocarbyl-substituted hydrazines are efficiently prepared according to a three-step procedure, comprising a first step wherein ammonia, a primary or secondary amine, an alkali metal amide, an alkaline earth metal amide, a hydrocarbyl-substituted alkali metal amide or a hydrocarbyl-substituted alkaline earth metal amide is reacted with a chlorinating agent to produce the corresponding chloramine without co-production of an amine hydrochloride salt; a second step wherein the chloramine is reacted with a tertiary amine to produce a tertiary hydrazinium chloride; and a final step wherein the tertiary hydrazinium chloride is reacted with an alkali metal amide or an alkaline earth metal amide under anhydrous conditions to produce the desired product.
