A method for the treatment of one of the surface sides of a flat-structured material with a large surface development and highly reduced thickness with respect to said surface development, from a minimum working height (weft) to a maximum of 2.50 m (2,500 mm) which can be wrapped into a cylindrical roll, both at the inlet (before treatment) and at the outlet (after treatment), comprising:
a) putting said material, on the side of the surface of interest, in contact with a moving solid; b) regulating the reciprocal position between the surface of the flat-structured material to be treated and the moving solid, this in turn being in constant contact with a moving solid inside a liquid bath; c) moving said solid inside said liquid bath to allow the above liquid to be transferred onto the surface of the adjacent solid (a); d) programming the temperature and also the composition of said liquid bath in relation to the treatment to be effected on the surface of interest of the material to be treated; e) subjecting the material thus treated to finishing operations.

Apparatus for applying liquid to a running yarn (12) in a textile machine comprises a hollow body (28) providing a manifold (20) for the liquid and an elongate tube (33) extending horizontally across the manifold (20). The tube (33) is retained to a bore (32) in the body (28) by a yarn guide (29) which is detachably secured to the body (28) and the bore in tube (33) communicates with a groove yarn path (38) provided by the yarn guide (29) via a bore (31) in the yarn guide (29) of larger diameter than the bore in the tube (33). The constant supply of liquid to the yarn (12) is provided by the controlled flow of liquid along the tube (33) whose length is at least 100 times the diameter of the bore therein. A height adjustable weir (17) in a liquid supply tank (16) supplies liquid to the manifold (20) at a predetermined pressure. The yarn path (38) has a plurality of yarn contact points (39,40) to ensure complete application of liquid by the yarn (12).

A self-wrapping, textile sleeve for routing and protecting elongate members from exposure to abrasion, thermal and other environmental conditions and method on construction thereof. The sleeve has an elongate wall constructed from interlaced yams having interstices between adjacent yarns. At least one of the yarns is heat formed at one temperature to form the wall as a self-wrapping wall curling about a longitudinal axis of the sleeve. The wall has an inner surface providing a generally tubular cavity in which the elongate members are received. The wall also has an outer surface with a cured layer thereon. The cured layer is cured at the one temperature at which the yams are heat formed into their self-wrapping configuration, wherein the cured layer fills the interstices between adjunct yarns to form an impervious layer on the wall.
