This is achieved by an embossing tool (1) for carrying out a method of the aforementioned type, comprising a stamp (2) in which a notch (3) for receiving a material of a workpiece (4) is formed and comprising a cutting die (5) which lies opposite the stamp (2) and which has a cutting edge (6) that can cut into the material of the workpiece (4) such that the material is forced into the notch (3) lying opposite the cutting edge (6), said stamp (2) and cutting die (5) being movable relative to each other, wherein slowing means (7) are provided which retain the material at least in some regions.

Erfindungsgemäß ist vorgesehen, dass der verjüngte Abschnitt mit dem Rest des Rohrs (1) einstückig über einen Doppelfalz (30) verbunden ist, wobei die Falzlagen (2,3,4) des Doppelfalzes (30) unmittelbar aneinander anliegen. Die Erfindung stellt ferner ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines derartigen Rohrs (1) bereit. Dazu wird zunächst das Rohrende eines Rohrs (1) mit konstantem Durchmesser in einer Formhülse eingezogen. Zwischen dem verjüngten Abschnitt (20) und dem unverformten Teil des Rohrs (10) wird in einem nächsten Verfahrensschritt durch Stauchen des Rohrs (1) ein umlaufender nach außen abstehender Wulst (6) erzeugt. Anschließend wird der Wulst (6) in Richtung des freien Endes des Rohrs (1) umgeschlagen, sodass ein Doppelfalz (30) entsteht, dessen Falzlagen (2,3,4) unmittelbar aneinander anliegen.

A method of producing support pillars for use in the fabrication of evacuated glass panels and, in particular, for use in the fabrication of evacuated glazing. The method comprises the steps of: (a) forming in opposite surfaces (15, 16) of a metal blank (10) periodically spaced pairs of aligned linearly extending indentations (13, 14 and 17, 18) and, as a consequence, creating regions of weakness (23) that extend between troughs (24) of the respective pairs of indentations, and (b) parting individual support pillars (28) from the metal blank (in which the indentations are formed) at the respective regions (23) of weakness.
