Hydraulic steering system for means of transport, particularly for watercrafts or the like, comprising: at least one steering control member (1) such as a steering wheel, a rudder tiller or helm; a hydraulic pump (2) provided with a rotatable driving shaft (102) and on which said control member (1) is fitted for entraining so as to rotate it (102); at least one hydraulic actuating cylinder (4) connected with two ports of the pump alternately operating as delivery side and return side of said pump (2) and forming an hydraulic circuit with said pump and being mechanically connected (5) with a direction changing member, which determines the change in the direction by modifying its orientation with respect to an axis of the means of transport or of the watercraft; the change in the orientation of said direction changing member being performed by said actuating cylinder (4) as a function of the supply of hydraulic fluid to said cylinder caused by the operation of the pump (2) by the steering control member (1). According to the invention the driving shaft (102) is dynamically connected with a electric motor/transmission assembly (3), which is activated alternatively according to one of the following options: a) generating a rotational force auxiliary to the movement manually exerted on the steering control member (1) or opposing said manually exerted movement; b) driving so as to rotate the driving shaft (102) of the pump (2) in place of the manual action driving the steering control member (1).

The compact hydraulic steering system with a monitor and compensation device, abbreviated CHS-Z, directs a hydraulic actuator within the inner wheel by means of a hydraulic actuator at the handlebars or steer. The compact steering house (2) is situated centrally in the wheel hub (1) around which the wheel spins or on which the wheel is attached. A hydraulic actuator, being a rotary or piston actuator, within the steering house (2) ensures the rotation of the steering axle (3) and the wheel hub (1) to which it is connected. The steering angle of the wheel and the handlebars or steer are kept synchronous by a monitor and compensation device. This steering system distinguishes itself from the traditional steering devices through it extremely compact build inside the wheel hub (1) and the absence of a mechanical connection between the wheel(s) that need to be directed and the handlebars or steer. It offers the constructor a safe and reliable steering system on top of a significant freedom in the design of the wheel suspension.

The position or the direction of displacement of the cylinder pistons (3, 4) in the steering cylinders (3, 4) defines the steering angle or the steering direction of the steerable vehicle wheels relative to a body (5) of the vehicle. The displaceable cylinder pistons (3, 4) divide the associated steering cylinder (1, 2) into two respective pressure chambers (6 and 7, 8 and 9). The first connection (46) of the adjustable hydraulic pump (14) is joined to one of the pressure chambers (6 or 7, 8 or 9) of the two steering cylinders (1, 2) according to the steering direction while the second connection (15) thereof is joined to the other respective pressure chamber (6 or 7, 8 or 9) of the two steering cylinders (1, 2) in a closed circuit.
