摘要:
A method and apparatus is disclosed for generating thyristor gating signals for a force commutated inverter in order to produce variable frequency pulse-width modulated output waveforms with the appropriate percent fundamental voltage content for reactive power control and with the correct phase relationship to the utility line for real power control. A signal processor in conjunction with a memory is used to store individual patterns for generating a wide variety of PWM waveforms at different frequencies over the entire modulation range so as to provide the designer with the flexibility to select the most advantageous harmonic cancellation for each operating point. An embodiment of the invention disclosed uses three microprocessors to generate the PWM waveforms and a fourth microprocessor to synchronize the other three and produce the required phase shift. The principles disclosed apply to inverters used and controlled in parallel with a grid of real and reactive control signal commands and also those used independently by means of voltage magnitude commands.

A three-phase supply system is described which has particular application for single to three-phase converters and variable speed three-phase a.c. motor controllers. This is achieved by using a solid state six element voltage-source inverter (20) to achieve and control the dual conversion of voltage and frequency. The solid state unit is used in the single to three-phase converter and in a three-phase to three-phase converter and consists of six power switches (34), (gate turn-off switches (GTOs)) which invert the fixed d.c. voltage derived from a rectified single-phase or three-phase a.c. mains (12,82) to provide a required symmetrical three-phase output supply (22). The use of solid state elements enables the unit to be controlled from a processing unit (54) which can be programmed and set so that the output voltage and frequency is carefully controlled to meet supply requirements for both the three-phase power supply and to achieve variable speed a.c. motor control.

Technologies for communicating information from an inverter configured for the conversion of direct current (DC) power generated from an alternative source to alternating current (AC) power are disclosed. The technologies include determining information to be transmitted from the inverter over a power line cable connected to the inverter and controlling the operation of an output converter of the inverter as a function of the information to be transmitted to cause the output converter to generate an output waveform having the information modulated thereon.
