    摘要: Compatibilities between a double-sided optical disk and a single-sided optical disk are assured when each disk is subject to data recording and reproduction operations by means of either a one-head type optical data recording and reproduction apparatus or a two-head type optical data recording and reproduction apparatus while allowing vertically inverted cartridge insertion for data recording and reproduction. Provided is an optical disk having a data recording area (25) and a volume management area (26) which includes an access mode registration area (27) for recording therein access mode data such as apparatus data representing the number of optical heads of the optical data recording and reproduction apparatus, the number of volumes of an optical disk, and sector recording order and/or track and sector recording units. Data recording and reproduction operations are effected by detecting the optical head (4A, 4B) facing each recording surface by means of a sensor (28), rotating the optical disk (1) forwardly or reversely, reading out access mode data from the access mode registration area (27), and switching signal paths between a channel data recording and reproduction circuit (7) and a laser drive circuit (8) and a signal reproduction head amplifier circuit by means of a signal selection circuit (18).

    first and second optical heads (4A, 4B) for irradiating laser beams to tracks on opposite sides (3A, 3B) of the double-sided optical disc (1);
    first and second servo means (6A, 6B) for focusing and tracking the laser beams towards predetermined tracks on the opposite sides of the optical disc;
    at least one retrieval means for sending the first and second optical heads towards the predetermined tracks;
    first and second ID read-out means (10A, 10B) for reading out respective sector addresses from associated sector identifiers (ID) on the respective opposite sides of the optical disc;
    a first sector recording and/or production control means (11A) for detecting a target sector when an sector address output from the first ID read-out means (10A) coincides with the target sector on one of the sides of the optical disc and for activating a recording or reproduction of information;
    a second sector recording and/or reproduction control means (11B) for detecting a target sector on the other of the sides of the optical disc and for activating a recording or reproduction of the information; and, an information recording and/or reproducing means (12A, 12B) for recording or reproducing information on or from the target sectors on the respective sides of the optical disc by means of the first and second sector recording and/or reproduction control means. The disc player also includes an ID offset detecting means (21) for calculating, in response to outputs from the ID read-out means, an ID offset value (17) descriptive of an annular displacement in sector position between the opposite sides (3A, 3B) of the optical disc traced by the associated optical heads (4A, 4B); an ID offset retaining means (17) for retaining the ID offset value (18);
    an adder means for adding the ID offset value to an output from the second ID read-out means; and the second sector recording and/or reproduction control means (11B) detecting a target sector when a corrected sector address output from the adder means coincides with the target sector on the other of the sides of the optical disc.
