A mixture of 100 parts by weight of zeolite powder, 0.1 to 20 parts by weight of β-1,3-glucan, a 1:1 layered clayey mineral, a 2:1 layered clayey mineral and a proper amount of water is kneaded to prepare a plasticizable molding composition of zeolite. The composition is molded by, for example, extrusion into a honeycomb structure and fired to give a fired honeycomb zeolite which is excellent in dimensional accuracy and mechanical strengths and useful as desiccant, catalyst, carrier therefor and so forth.

A concentrated shellfish extract is prepared by subjecting an extract of a shellfish (exclusive of oyster) having a solid concentration not higher than 30% by weight to an adsorption purification treatment with an adsorbent composed mainly of a water-insoluble inorganic magnesium compound, which has a specific surface area of at least 50 m²/g, and concentrating the refined liquid in a substantially non-oxidizing atmosphere. In this shellfish extract concentrate, black and blackish brown coloring components are not contained, and flavor components and nutrients are not substantially lost. Accordingly, this shellfish extract concentrate is excellent in taste, flavor and hue.

A crystalline zinc silicate mineral of the sauconite, hemimorphite or willemite type is prepared by subjecting an acid-treated product of a clay mineral and an oxide or hydroxide of zine or a compound capable of forming this oxide or hydroxide under reaction conditions to a hydrothermal treatment. This crystalline zine silicate mineral has a fine and uniform particle size and is excellent in the pigmenting characteristics.

A decoloring agent for fats and oils or mineral oils, comprising an activated clay obtained by treating a dioctahedral smectite clay mineral with an acid, wherein the activated clay has an average particle diameter (D 50 ) of 20 to 30 µm calculated as the volume relying upon the laser diffraction scattering method and contains fine particles of not larger than 5 µm in an amount.of not larger than 15% by volume, has a bulk density in a range of 0.60 to 0.70 g/cc, has a pore volume at pore diameters of 17 to 3,000 Å of 0.35 to 0.40 cc/g as measured relying upon the nitrogen adsorption method, and has a ratio of the bulk density and the pore volume (bulk density/pore volume) in a range of 1.55 to 1.95. The decoloring agent has excellent filtering property, high decoloring property and low oil retention.

According to this invention, an amorphous or pseudo-boehmite-type hydrated alumina gel and an alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate as starting materials are reacted in an aqueous medium to give a method of producing a process for producing an alkali aluminum complex hydroxide carbonate salt which is industrially low-cost and has high productivity. Furthermore, by using a gibbsite-type hydrated alumina, a lithium aluminum complex hydroxide carbonate salt can be synthesized by a migration method. The lithium aluminum complex hydroxide carbonate salt and the sodium aluminum complex hydroxide carbonate salt obtained by the processes of the present invention have excellent compoundability in pigments and resins. In addition, these complex salts have no foaming hazards at the time of processing the resins and are useful as resin fillers for halogen capturing property, infrared ray absorbing property and excellent transparency. They are especially useful as a stabilizer (halogen capturing agent) for resin films, a warmth-keeping agent (infrared absorbing agent) and an anti-blocking agent.

A thixotropy-imparting agent comprises chain clay mineral particles which have a thixotropic index (TI) of not smaller than 4.0 in a dispersion solution obtained by dispersing chain clay mineral particles at a concentration of 7% by weight in diethylhexyl phthalate (DOP) as a dispersing medium and not smaller than 3.0 in a dispersion solution obtained by dispersing chain clay mineral particles at a concentration of 3% by weight in water as a dispersion medium, and have a bulk density of not larger than 0.125 g/ml, and a particle size distribution of secondary particles as measured by a laser method, in which particle sizes of larger than 1.0 µm but not larger than 30µm are not less than 70% by weight and particle sizes of not larger than 1.0 µm are in a range of 5 to 30% by weight.
