The unit for scrubbing gas comprises three sections: 1. the ionising and main scrubbing section for the water-saturated raw gas, comprising a space charge region following the ionisation device for the contaminating particles, 2. the auxiliary scrubbing section comprising a zone of earthed hollow electrodes and 3. the subsequent fine scrubbing in a filter device, after which the pure gas is supplied to the region before the above. The ionisation of the particles occurs in a corona discharge. The material produced, comprising separated particles from the three zones are collected, purified and reintroduced to the gas scrubbing process. The coolant heated by passage through the tube cavities can be used to heat the sealing gas for insulating the fixings and the at least one high voltage duct is used.

A device for purifying outgoing air which is loaded with contaminants, comprising an ionization unit (2) which is used to ionize contaminants which are contained in said outgoing air and a collector unit (4, 5) which is used to separate ionized contaminants from said outgoing air. The collector unit comprises a water jet (4) which is used to produce a mist so that ionized contaminants can settle on the droplets of said mist, and a mist collector (5) which is used to separate the droplets of mist to which the contaminants have adhered from said outgoing air. The inventive device enables very small particles and drops of contaminants to be removed in an efficient manner without having to clean the collector plates at regular intervals. The inventive device is particularly useful for purifying blue smoke from outgoing textile areas, which otherwise is only possible with the aid of electrofilters.

The invention relates to a method and device for separating materials in the form of particles and/or drops from a gas flow, in which method the gas flow is directed through a collection chamber the outer walls of which are grounded, and in which high tension is directed to the ion yield tips arranged in the collection chamber, thus providing an ion flow from the ion yield tips towards the collection surfaces, separating the desired materials from the gas flow. It is characteristic of the invention that the collection surfaces conducting electricity are electrically insulated from the outer casings; and that high tension with the opposite sign of direct voltage as the high tension directed to the ion yield tips is directed to the collection surfaces. According to an embodiment of the invention the electrical insulation is made of ABS, and the surface conducting electricity comprises a thin chrome layer arranged on the insulation layer.

There are provided a dust collector and method for collecting dust in which the rarefaction of a dielectric at the rear part of electric field forming means is prevented, whereby the collecting efficiency can be increased.
The dust collector includes charging means 1 for charging a substance to be collected 9, such as dust and mist, contained in a gas; spray means 2 for spraying a dielectric 10 on the substance to be collected 9 charged by the charging means 1; electric field forming means 3, having first and second electrodes 11 and 12 for forming a direct current electric field, for dielectrically polarizing the dielectric 10 sprayed by the spray means 2 by means of the direct current electric field; and dielectric collecting means 16 for collecting the dielectric 10 which has arrested the substance to be collected 9, the spray means 2 being provided with grounding means 17 and 18 for electrically grounding the dielectric 10 before being sprayed to let a charge of the dielectric 10 escape.

The present invention relates to a method and assembly for controlling the behaviour of particulate matter such as mist and dust occurring in the manufacture of paper and board. In the method, a web (1) is passed to web treatment equipment (22, 23) wherein at least one treatment step is applied to the web (1) causing the emission of said particulate matter (24). According to the method, in the vicinity of the emission point (21) of said particulate matter, are placed at least two electrodes (25, 26), and at least one electrode, called a counter-electrode (26), is taken to a low potential. Further, at least one electrode (25) is taken to a potential higher than that of said counter-electrode (26), and the potential difference between said electrodes (25, 26) is made so high as to generate a corona discharge between said electrodes that causes an ion-blast wind toward the electrode (26) of the lower potential, said ion-blast wind being capable of transferring particulate matter, which enters the gap between said electrodes, toward said electrode of lower potential.

An electrostatic precipitator (80) including a cylindrical tube (81) the upper end of which is provided with a gas outlet (87) while the lower end is provided with a gas inlet (88). Mounted adjacent the upper end of the tube (81) is an ion source (95). Adjacent the lower end of the tube (81) is a diaphragm (92) which is vibrated by an ultrasonic transducer (93). A liquid is supported on the diaphragm (92) and caused to vibrate in order to produce a mist. An electric potential is established between the ion source (95) and the liquid so that carbon particles contained in the gas stream passing through the precipitator are trapped by liquid droplets which are then conveyed back to a reservoir for the liquid.
