A molded display form (i.e. a mannequin) or other article is provided, made of an elastomeric material having a pigment and/or dye mixed therein, said form having a selected uniform color throughout the thickness of said material. Any desirable color may be selected, e.g., skin color (to approximate that of any race) grey, tan, red, blue, yellow, metallic colors such as gold and silver, and mixtures thereof. White and black molded articles are also provided herein. The processes of this invention are especially suitable for producing articles having a uniform color throughout without streaking. The forms of this invention are non-brittle, resist burning, and stand up well to high temperatures. If they are scraped or chipped, the uniform color of the material throughout will make the injury less noticeable. The material is also soft enough that seam lines may eliminated by buffing with synthetic pads, and because of the uniform color of the material, there is no need to paint over the buffed surface.

Isoelectric focusing gels are cast in a rod-shaped casting mold split longitudinally into two halves (11, 12), each half having a half-circle profile (22) so that the combined halves form a completed mold that is tubular in shape with a circular cross section. Flat grooves (15, 16) are cut into the flat contacting surfaces of each of the mold halves, the grooves in direct opposition to one another to form a chamber of rectangular cross section extending the full length of the mold and open at both ends. One groove receives a flexible backing strip (17) for the gel and the other serves as the casting chamber for the gel. Once the gel is cast in this mold, isoelectric focusing can be performed as if the gel were a tube gel, and the two mold halves are then readily separated to permit removal of the gel and its transfer if desired to a second dimension separation.

The contact masks are made of polymer gels, including hydrogel materials. The complementary molds of the present invention include at least one elastomeric half mold. An article with a predetermined surface pattern that is coated with a film which makes possible the complete transfer of the pattern of a patterning die and thick-film patterning having a depth to the order of several tens of micrometers, prevents the occurrence of cracks, has high film hardness, and has a surface pattern which is the inverse of the surface pattern of the patterning die. This article is produced by joining a patterning die closely to a substrate with a sol-gel material containing the silane compound represented by the formula: R 1 SiX 3 (wherein R 1 is an alkyl group or hydrogen and X is an alkoxyl group or a halogen atom) and the silane compound represented by the formula: R 2 SiY 3 (wherein R 2 is an aryl group or a substituted aryl group and Y is an alkoxyl group or a halogen atom) disposed therebetween in the form of a film and heating them to coat the surface of the substrate with a gel film having a surface pattern which is the inverse of the surface pattern of the patterning die.

This invention relates to the form in which polymers are provided, said polymers for use, in combination with a liquid medium, to form a gel from which products such as liquid detergents, cosmetics and toiletries can be produced. The invention provides the polymer, which is typically a carbomer or cross-polyacrylate in a granulated, pelletised or tablet form rather than in the conventional fine powdered form. This conversion of the polymer into either of a granular, pelletised or tablet form is shown to improve the handling of the dry polymer and mitigate many of the problems with the conventional powder and further to improve the rate of blending of the polymer with the liquid medium to form the required gel.
