A method of forming the polymer-modified polyol, its use in the manufacture of polyurethane products and the polyurethane products so obtained, are included. The dispersions are particularly useful for preparing highly resilient flexible foams.

The invention relates to a process for preparing a flame-resistant polymer-modified polyol having a solids content of 1 to 65 wt.% wherein (i) at least one polyisocyanate and (ii) an olamine are reacted in (iii) a base polyol having at least two active hydrogen containing groups of which more than 50% are primary active hydrogen containing groups and wherein the olamine has at least one phosphonic ester group attached to a tertiary nitrogen atom and contains at least two hydroxyl groups. The invention further relates to a flame-resistant polymer-modified polyol obtainable with the process of the invention, to a process for preparing optionally foamed plastics using the polymer-modified polyol of the invention, and to the use of a polymer-modified polyol for the preparation of flexible polyurethane foams.

Dispersions of polyurea particles are made by reacting polyisocyanate compounds and coreactants that include at least one polyamine while dispersed in a base polyether. The polyisocyanate or the polyamine, or both, has a functionality of at least 2. A highly preferred coreactant is an alkylthio-substituted aromatic diamine such as 3,5-di(methylthio)-2,4-toluene diamine. The dispersions have extremely small particles, which promotes storage stability.

In particular, the method according to the invention is a method for microencapsulating liquid isocyanate with polyol and/or polyamine. The invention further relates to correspondingly obtained microcapsules and to adhesive systems comprising said microcapsules. Said adhesive systems are inter alia used in methods for adhering two connecting sections, in particular for adhering wood in a bonded manner. Described herein, in the preferred embodiment, is a leonardite-based polyurethane resin binder that may be used, among other applications, as a binder in combination with foundry aggregate, e.g., sand, for molding or casting metal parts. The binders described herein comprise a humic substance, preferably leonardite, combined with a polymerizable polyol, an isocyanate, and a polymerization catalyst to make a polyurethane resin binder in situ in a foundry aggregate, such as sand. The lignite is mixed with the polymerizable polyol, thickening and dispersing agents as additives to improve the suspension quality and binder performance of the lignite-containing part of the binder components.
