Sliceable bone repair material is a porous block-shaped scaffold containing a hydrogel, wherein the hydrogel is formed by Michael type addition of at least two precursor molecules. Said scaffold is made of a synthetic ceramic material and has interconnected macropores having a diameter above 100 μm. In addition said scaffold has a total porosity of 80 to 95%. The total volume of the hydrogel is smaller than the total volume of the interconnected macropores.

The invention relates to the use of (oxidized) thioethers of polyalkylene glycols in detergents and cleaning agents, especially in dishwashing detergents, and to detergents and cleaning agents, especially dishwashing detergents, containing (oxidized) thioethers of polyalkylene glycols. Said (oxidized) thioethers are especially suitable for use as surfactants having rinse aid function (rinse aid surfactants). The term "oxidized" refers to the sulfur atom in the thioether, which may be present in oxidized form as a sulfoxide (SO) or sulfonyl (SO2). The invention further relates to certain oxidized thioethers of polyalkylene glycols.

Multifunctional compounds are provided that readily crosslink in situ to provide crosslinked biomaterials. The multifunctional compounds contain a single component having at least three reactive functional groups thereon, with the functional groups selected so as to be non-reactive in an initial environment and inter-reactive in a modified environment. Reaction of a plurality of the multifunctional compounds results in a three-dimensional crosslinked matrix. In one embodiment, a first functional group is nucleophilic, a second functional group is electrophilic, and at least one additional functional group is nucleophilic or electrophilic. Methods for preparing and using the multifunctional compounds, and kits including the multifunctional compounds are also provided. Exemplary uses for the multifunctional compounds include tissue augmentation, biologically active agent delivery, bioadhesion, and prevention of adhesions following surgery or injury.

A method for encapsulating biologics within a hydrogel by using an aqueous solution of an isocyanate-functional hydrogel prepolymer which is mixed with an amount of biologics and an aqueous solution containing a dithiol crosslinking agent under physiological pH conditions. An additional bidentate crosslinking agent may be included. The product of such method may be a bioreactor or an assay device having a plurality of different biologics encapsulated at predetermined locations in a substrate.

The bleach-accelerating compounds are polyoxyethylene compounds comprising at least 20 mol % of recurring oxyethylene units, which carry a thioether group in a side-chain.

Processes of preparing defined monomer sequence polymers are disclosed, in which a backbone portion of the polymer is first prepared by performing one or more sequential monomeric coupling reactions with intervening membrane diafiltration purification/isolation steps, followed by a step of decorating the backbone portion with one or more side chains at predetermined positions along its length. The process represents an improvement on prior art techniques, which impose limitations on the size of the side chains that may be present. Defined monomer sequence polymers that are obtainable by the processes are also disclosed.
