In the seat switch, within a case main body 11, there are arranged a vertical switch portion 16, a seat slide switch portion 15, and a vertical switch portion 14 in this order. To slide a power seat in an X direction, a seat switch knob 24 is operated in the X direction. In response to this, a seat slide operation shaft 22 is moved in the X direction, so that a projection 33a provided on an operation body 33 is pressed against one side (X-direction side) of a movable contact disposed in each opening and closing portion to thereby move the movable contact. As a result, the X-direction side contact end of the movable contact is contacted with a fixed contact. Due to this, a seat sliding motor connected to the switch portion 14 is driven or rotated forward and, because of the forward rotation of the motor, the power seat is moved forward in the X direction.

Force sensitive resistor switches (20a-20g) are supported on the switch panel portion (16) and are secured to the inner surface of a skin cover having a continuous outer surface (18) and forming the outer layer of a soft feel composite. The force sensitive resistor switches are embedded in the soft feel composite either as being cast in a layer of flexible foam or being applied within preformed openings in a layer of flexible foam in certain embodiments in which case they are associated with a circuit module (34) that negates preloading effects due to thermal expansion caused by changes in ambient conditions. In a preferred embodiment the correction occurs due to a circuit configuration that corrects for such preloading effects on a deflection rate basis. The circuit module (34) for each switch (20a-20g) may also include a relay in high power applications.

A keyless entry touch pad system for a vehicle includes a substrate with a plurality of touch zones disposed on one surface of the substrate, and a plurality of electrode patterns disposed on the opposite surface. An inner electrode of each pattern is aligned with one of the touch zones. Each pattern is electrically coupled to an integrated control circuit, which outputs a signal to and energizes the electrodes of the pattern such that electric fields emanate therefrom. The electrode patterns may be capacitively coupled to the integrated control circuit. When the electric field of the inner electrode is disturbed by a stimulus proximate the corresponding touch zone, the component is activated. Upon activation of the components in a predetermined sequence, a controller causes the vehicle door to unlock. A method of unlocking a vehicle is also disclosed.

A software switch displays information indicating the auxiliary function and a command portion performing the usage command on a screen, and receives the usage command for the auxiliary function through a command operation made with respect to the command portion. When either of the hardware switch or the software switch is operated, information is provided for identifying the other switch that corresponds to the auxiliary function utilized by the operated switch.
