A switchmode power supply (SMPS) (32) drives a transformer (T1) with three secondaries (T1S1b, T1S1a and T1S2). First and second rectifiers & filters ((CR107, CR108) and (F101, F102)) are associated with the first and second secondaries. A rectifier is coupled to the third secondary (T1S1b) and by way of a switch (K2) to the first filter (F101). Feedback from the first filter (F101) controls the SMPS (32). In a first operating mode, the scanner (100) is operated at the first frequency, the switch is open, the scanner supply (SCAN +) is a first voltage from the first filter (F101), and ancillary equipment is supplied with a third voltage by the second filter (F102). In a second operating mode, the scanner (100) is operated at the second frequency, the switch (K2) is closed, the scanner supply (SCANB +) is a second voltage, higher than the first, from the first filter (F101), and ancillary equipment is supplied with the same third voltage.

A storage capacitor (C501) is coupled to the capacitive load (C602, C wire, CTl) for replenishing a charge stored in the storage capacitor (C501) from a charge stored in the capacitive load to develop a control voltage in the storage capacitor (C501). A pull-up transistor is responsive to the control voltage and coupled to a source of a high voltage and to the capacitive load (C602, C wire, CTl) for producing from the high voltage a current that is coupled to the capacitive load. The current develops a second portion of the dynamic focus voltage that increases, during a second portion of the period of the periodic signal, and stores the charge in the capacitive load (C602, C wire, CTl).

A method and apparatus used to step and correct the position of raster lines in a sinusoidal or zig-zag deflection system. By combining the magnetic flux generated with a rotation "twister" coil and a vertical deflection coil, scan lines can be uniformly spaced and separated nearly to their ends. Accordingly, the magnetic flux generated with the twister coil is adjusted going in the left to right direction then reversed in polarity and readjusted while returning from right to left. It is this controlled twister flux that combines with the linear vertical deflection flux to straighten and then step each scan line to produce an aligned raster.

An amplifier (23) responsive to the sawtooth signal generates a feedback current (IOUT) at a time (H. LINE #210, Fig. 2c) that occurs more than one-half of the length of vertical trace portion after vertical trace is initiated. The feedback current is coupled to a capacitor (22) to develop a capacitor voltage (VAGC). The capacitor voltage is applied via a voltage-to-current converter (21) to an integrating capacitor (14) to develop in the integrating capacitor the trace portion of the sawtooth signal.

The apparatus of the invention enables a CRT to be readily adapted to display either one type of language from left to right or a different type of language from right to left. The apparatus includes a first relay (30) for connecting a power supply (25) to a CRT driver (32), and a second relay (42) connecting the CRT to the CRT driver (32), actuation of the second relay (42) serving to reverse the signals applied to first and second leads connected to horizontal deflection coil means of the CRT. Logic means (36) control the operation of the first and second relays (30, 42) whereby, in response to the generation of a control signal indicative of raster scan reversal, the first relay (30) is actuated to disconnect the power supply (25) from the CRT driver (32) prior to actuation of the second relay (42), after which the first relay (30) is reset so as to reconnect the power supply (25) to the CRT driver (32).
