Abstract: Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for image sensors with pixel binning with configurable shared floating diffusion are presented. In one example, an image sensor system includes a plurality of sensor elements; a photo-sensitive layer coupled to the plurality of sensor elements; a plurality of floating diffusion regions in communication with the photo-sensitive layer, each floating diffusion region of the plurality of floating diffusion regions configured to be selectively enabled; and at least one bridge coupled to two floating diffusion regions of the plurality of floating diffusion regions, the bridge configured to be selectively enabled and, when enabled, to allow a transfer of charge between the two floating diffusion regions.

Abstract: In various embodiments, an image sensor and related method are disclosed. In an embodiment, an image sensor includes an optically sensitive material, and a pixel circuit including a sense node in electrical communication with the optically sensitive material. The pixel circuit stores an electrical signal proportional to an intensity of light incident on the optically sensitive material during an integration period. The pixel circuit includes a differential transistor pair in electrical communication with the optically sensitive material. The differential transistor pair includes a first transistor and a second transistor, with the first transistor being disposed between the optically sensitive material and the sense node. The differential transistor pair steers current between the optically sensitive material and the sense node through the first transistor during the integration period and steers current through the second transistor after the integration period to discontinue integration of the electrical signal onto the sense node.

Abstract: An image-capturing device includes: an image sensor that includes an image-capturing area where an image of a subject is captured; a setting unit that sets image-capturing conditions to be applied to the image-capturing area; a selection unit that selects pixels to be used for interpolation from pixels present in the image-capturing area; and a generation unit that generates an image of the subject captured in the image-capturing area with signals generated through interpolation executed by using signals output from the pixels selected by the selection unit, wherein: the selection unit makes a change in selection of at least some of the pixels to be selected depending upon the image-capturing conditions set by the setting unit.

Abstract: An image processing method is provided. The method is configured to process the color-block image output by the image sensor. The high-frequency region of the color-block image is determined. A part of the color-block image within the high-frequency region is converted into a first image using a first interpolation algorithm. A part of the color-block image beyond the high-frequency region is converted into a second image using a second interpolation algorithm. The complexity of the second interpolation algorithm is less than that of the first interpolation algorithm. The first image and the second image are merged into a simulation image corresponding to the color-block image. An image processing apparatus and an electronic device are provided.

Abstract: The present disclosure discloses an imaging method. The imaging method comprises: providing an image sensor, the image sensor comprising a photosensitive pixel array and a filter arranged on the photosensitive unit array, the filter comprising a filter cell array, and each filter cell covering a plurality of photosensitive pixels to form a merged pixel; and reading outputs of the photosensitive pixel array, and adding the outputs of the photosensitive pixels of the same merged pixel to obtain a pixel value of the merged pixel, thereby producing a merged image. Images, having higher signal to noise ratio, brightness, and definition, and less noise, can be captured by using the imaging method in low light. The present disclosure also discloses an imaging device using the imaging method and an electronic device using the imaging device.

Abstract: The present invention is related to an image sensor and to a method for operating such sensor. The sensor of the invention comprises a pair of butted sensor tiles, each sensor tile comprising a pixel array comprising a plurality of rows and columns of photosensitive pixels. By constructing first row groups using at least one imaginary row, a different center-to-center distance exists between the different row groups than that which is obtained in prior art devices. More in particular, the construction according to the present invention allows the center positions of the rows to lie on a regular grid thereby lowering the geometrical distortion of the resulting image.
