A full-surface bonded multiple component nonwoven fabric is provided that has an improved combination of tear strength and tensile strength at lower thicknesses than known in the art. The full-surface bonded multiple component webs have a void percent between about 3% and 56% and a Frazier permeability of at least 0.155 m3/min-m2. The full-surface bonded multiple component nonwoven fabrics can be prepared in a smooth-calendering process.

A nonwoven fabric, and method of production, are disclosed, wherein the nonwoven fabric comprises textile length fibers with a portion being thermally fusible. The fabric exhibits sufficient durability to withstand commercial dyeing processes, the resultant fabric finding widespread applicability by virtue of its durability and aesthetic appeal. The process comprises hydroentangling a fiber web (P) using a high pressure water streams from manifold (22) on a three-dimensional image transfer device at drum (18), and then heat-fusing the binder-fibers in the hydroentangled web.

An inexpensive sheet or web shaped fibre material for use e.g. in sanitary napkins typically consists of a mixture of short cellulose fibres and some 15 % of relatively long, thermoplastic binder fibres. It is a noticeable problem that the short fibres 'dust' out of the material, and according to the invention this is remedied in that the material, when made by dry forming, is provided with a surface coating of very thin layers of pure binder fibres. In addition to a marked holding back of the dust, these layers condition that the amount of binder fibres in the base material can be halved and that the breaking stress of the material is noticeably improved. Thereby the products are usable not only as inserts, but also as individual, self-contained units e.g. for wiping in domestic or industrial cleaning.

The method according to the invention is directed to regulating the proportions of adjuvants and additives blended in a melted polymer in order to impart various properties to the solidified polymer product, their mechanisms, paths and rates of movement in the polymer matrix and their matrix position, in the various polymer processing stages. The regulation method is based on a centrally controlled regulation of the super- and substructures of the solidifying and solid polymer matrix and the solubility, rate of movement and surface properties of the adjuvant and additive components as a function of time and temperature.
