    摘要: An apparatus is disclosed which is mountable in a strapping machine frame adjacent a strap chute and adjacent a strap end gripping and sealing assembly. The apparatus has a pivotably mounted strap guide arm and gripper for guiding the strap during feeding in a first, upper position and for gripping the strap when the arm moves downwardly away from the first position. The strap is both fed into the strap chute and subsequently pre-tensioned by a pair of coacting feedwheels. A high tension pinion gear is mounted for rotation on an axis which is fixed relative to, and movable with, the strap guide arm. The pinion gear engages a rack member which is secured on one end to the strapping machine frame and which transmits the reaction force from the pinion gear to the strapping machine frame when the pinion gear is rotated in engagement with the rack. A single, reversible, rotating drive motor is mounted for movement with the guide arm and powers a gear drive assembly which is engaged with the motor and movable therewith for (1) rotating the feedwheels to feed the strap when the motor is rotating in a first direction, (2) rotating the feedwheels to withdraw the strap to pretension the loop with a first predetermined tension when the motor is rotating in a second direction, and (3) rotating the high tension pinion gear when both (a) the motor is rotating in the second direction and (b) the tension in the strap exceeds the predetermined, first tension. During high tensioning, the pinion gear moves along the rack and pivots the guide arm out of the first position to a second position whereby the gripper is actuated to grip the trailing portion of the strap and pull the gripped strap, thereby drawing a higher, second tension in the loop.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for a two speed strap take up usable in a strapping machine. The two speed strap take up apparatus generally comprises a high speed roller assembly (20) driven by a high speed drive shaft (28), a low speed roller assembly (40) driven by a low speed drive shaft (48), a shaft rotation reduction assembly (56) interconnecting the high speed drive shaft (28) and the low speed drive shaft (48), and a roller clutch assembly (220) inter-connecting the shaft rotation reduction assembly (56) and the low speed drive shaft (48). An input clutch assembly (250) may inter-connect the high speed drive shaft (28) and an input drive means. In operation, a strap (12) is disposed between and frictionally engaged by a high speed roller (22) of the high speed roller assembly (20) and a low speed roller (42) of the low speed roller assembly (40). The low speed roller (42) is then driven in rotation by the high speed roller (22). When a first tension is applied to the strap (12), the high speed roller (22) slips relative to the high speed drive shaft (28) until the roller clutch (220) inter-connecting the shaft rotation reduction assembly (56) and the low speed drive shaft (48) engages and rotates the low speed drive shaft (48) at a reduced rotation rate relative to the rotation rate of the high speed drive shaft (28). The strap (12) is now driven by both rollers (22, 42) at the reduced rotation rate as the high speed roller (22) slips relative to the high speed drive shaft (28). When a second tension, greater than the first tension, is applied to the strap (12), the low speed roller (42) slips relative to the low speed drive shaft (48) at which time the strapping machine may perform additional functions on the strap (12) such as securing it around a package.

The strapping device (24) includes plurality of coils (40,42) for supplying strap (38) to a guide apparatus (32). A chute apparatus (36) for routing strap (38) around an article or package (22) to be strapped is connected to the guide apparatus (32). The machine includes sensors and a control circuit adapted to operate the machine continuously without the need to stop production, since when one coil is out of strap or a misfeed occurs, the machine will automatically load another coil of strap and continue strapping packages. The soft touch package compression device (26) uses pneumatic-drive chain drive systems (150,152) for moving soft belts (154) up and down. The soft belts compress the package so that the strapping device can place a tight strap around the package.

The opposite end of the weld is level with or depressed with respect to marginal surfaces of the adjacent layer (18, 20). If the material is crystallizable, the weld may be more crystalline than other portions of the layers.
