A heat-seal band is provided that incorporates voltage sensing wires, such as signal wires or conductors that are separate from current load carrying wires or conductors. This provides two discrete electrical paths: a voltage sensing path, and a current transmission path. The voltage signal conductor(s) in the voltage sensing path may be insulated to mitigate any non-desired influence by means of the voltage signal conductor's exposure to thermal or electrical influences from the current transmission path, including current transmission paths defined through conductive tabs that connect the heat-seal band to the current load conductors. The voltage signal conductor may connect at a node to the tab to band (tab/band) junction, which is defined at an intersection of the heat-seal band's conductive tab and the band that directs heat into a workpiece. Additional or a second set of voltage sensing conductors may be electrically connected to the heat-seal band at a location that is spaced from or in a subset of the first set of voltage sensing conductors. The second set of voltage sensing conductors may provide a secondary voltage sensing arrangement as a verification tool for evaluating temperature discrepancies between their locations and those of the first set, indicative of heating non-uniformity about the heat-seal band.

The invention relates to a device for welding thermoplastic tubes (1, 2), to a welding method, and to a welding knife. The device according to the invention is provided for welding thermoplastic tubes (1, 2), wherein the tubes (1, 2) are placed into tube holders (100, 200) and squeezed with the aid of tube clamps. A welding knife is moved between the first and the second tube holder and severs the tubes (1, 2) in the process. Cut ends and residual ends are thereby produced. The cut ends are aligned with one another by a relative movement of one tube holder (100) with respect to the other tube holder (200) and, by a horizontal movement of the two tube holders (100, 200), are welded simultaneously to form continuous tubes.

An implant applicator and method for positioning a resistive implant material on a first plastic component to be used to form a resistive implant weld between that first plastic component and a second plastic component. The resistive implant material is heated and pressed into a targeted surface of the first plastic component to tack the resistive implant into place. The second plastic component is positioned over the tacked resistive implant and a weld formed in a known manner. The resistive implant material can be heated for tacking by passing an electric current through it before it is pressed into the first plastic component by a second member or by contacting the resistive implant material against a separately heated surface prior to pressing it into the first plastic component.
