More particularly, the invention relates to the use of sodium, ammonium and/or calcium thiocyanate alone, or in combination with specific aldose group antioxidants, as corrosion inhibitors. Aldose group antioxidants include arabinose, ascorbic acid, isoascorbic acid, gluconic acid, alkali metal, and alkaline earth or other metal ascorbates, isoascorbates and gluconates and mixtures thereof. Additionally, ammonium thioglycolate may be incorporated as a further corrosion inhibitor.

The RF portion can include at least two -CF3 groups, at least three -CF3 groups, and/or at least two -CF3 groups and at least two -CH2- groups. Detergents, emulsifiers, paints, adhesives, inks, wetting agents, foamers, and defoamers including the RF-surfactant composition are provided. Acrylics, resins, and polymers are provided that include a RF-monomer unit. Compositions are provided that include a substrate having a RF-composition thereover. Aqueous Film Forming Foam ('AFFF') formulations are provided that can include RF-surfactants and/or RF-foam stabilizers are provided.

Methods and materials are disclosed for the conversion hydrofluorocarbons. More specifically methods and materials are provided for converting hydrofluorocarbons such as HFC-227, HFC-236, HFC-245, HFC-125, HFC-134, HFC-143, HFC-152, HFC-32, HFC-23 and their respective isomers. Methods are provided for converting hydrofluorocarbons such as these to fluoromonomer precursors such as CFC-217, CFC-216, CFC-215, CFC-115, CFC-114, CFC-113, CFC-112, CFC-22, HCFC-22, CFC-12, CFC-13 and their respective isomers. Materials and methods are provided for the conversion of these fluoromonomer precursors to fluoromonomers such as HFP, PFP, TFP, TFE, and VDF.

A preferred process for producing a brominated, non-fused aromatic composition involves a continuous bromination in a continuous, mixed reactor such as a continuous stirred tank reactor. Bromine and the aromatic substrate, and optionaly a bromination catalyst, are continuously fed to a reaction zone to form a reaction mixture, and the reaction mixture is continuously withdrawn from the reaction zone after an established average residence time. Bromination levels can be readily controlled by controlling the average residence time of the reaction mixture within the reaction zone. Preferred continuous processes also provide mixed, brominated compositions having product distributions which are substantially broader than that obtained by batch brominations conducted to achieve the same level of bromination. Preferred products thus have broad melting ranges which are advantageous in compounding operations.

The fire-retardant tetrabromobisphenol oligomers of the present invention are advantageous due to their non-reactive end-caps.
