    摘要: An apparatus (10) for providing a fluidized bed (24) to effect the separation of a mixture of articles (58, 60) having at least a first density and a second density that is greater than the first density into separate groups. The apparatus (10) includes an inclined trough (12) which is supplied at an input end (18) with either a fluidization medium, such as sand, or a mixture of articles (58, 60) from which a fluidized bed (24) is formed by forcing gas upwardly through the bottom of the trough and through the fluidization medium or the mixture. In the case where a fluidization medium such as sand is used, the mixture of articles is introduced into the fluidized bed medium so as to be entrained therewith to effect separation as the articles travel in the direction of flow of the fluidized bed medium. Vertical oscillatory movement is imparted to the inclined trough (12) to improve the separation and layering where the mixture of articles is fluidized, or to improve the density uniformity where a fluidization medium such as sand is fluidized as the bed.

The spacing (17) between the first and second rotatable members (4, 5) and the spacing between the starwheels (9) thereof is sufficiently small to allow particles of a relatively small size to pass therethrough for return to the ground. The spacing between the second and third rotatable members (5, 6) and/or the spacing between the starwheels (9) of the third rotatable member (6) is sufficiently large to separate out larger objects for removal laterally (7) of the separator. Still larger objects is passed on by the third rotatable member (6) to a trough or bin (8).
