In a medical plaster material having a base that is coated with a pressure sensitive hot-melt-type adhesive in an even, porous layer, a coating applied on one side by means of a direct-gravure process provides sufficient porosity and, as a result, vapour permeability to skin moisture, as well as a completely bacteria-proof and reliably adhesive plaster material, due to the fact that: (a) the layer of pressure sensitive hot-melt-type adhesive forms continuous webs in the longitudinal and transverse directions, which delineate island-like nonadhesive surface areas; (b) the nonadhesive surface areas constitute between 30 and 60 % of the entire surface, preferably between 40 and 57 %, and (c) the coating weight of the adhesive is between 30 and 160 g/m2, preferably between 40 and 120 g/m2. Block copolymers with a viscosity between 1,000 and 20,000 mPa.S at 120-180° make suitable hot-melt-type adhesives. The adhesive is applied using a heatable direct-gravure applicator and both a rigid and an elastic doctor blade.

The method involves contacting perforating elements (13) with the sheet and subjecting the sheet (1), at least in the regions contacted with the perforating elements (13), to high frequency mechanical vibrations, eg using a sonotrode (14). The hydrophobic gel (4) is most suitably a silicone gel, and the perforated laminate may be utilised in a wound dressing.

By designing the opening area of the through-hole 111 and the number of through-holes 111 in the perforated material 11 within the particular numerical ranges, such a wound dressing can be prevented from adhering to granulation tissues that invade the through-holes 111 and can ensure sufficient permeation properties of exudate through the through-holes 111.

The invention relates to a breathing adhesive sheet material comprising a sheet layer having apertures and an adhesive coating layer with apertures corresponding to at least part of the apertures of said sheet layer, provided on one side of said sheet layer having apertures, wherein said apertures in said adhesive coating layer constitute portions of a substantially continuous adhesive coating layer separated there from by remaining adhered to a protective sheet layer upon removal thereof. The invention also relates to a composite sheet material comprising such adhesive sheet material with a removable protective sheet layer provided to separate portions from the continuous adhesive layer upon separation thereof from the adhesive sheet material. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such an adhesive sheet material comprising the steps of applying a layer of uncured adhesive material to a sheet layer having apertures and a layer of protective sheet material, and submitting the sheet layer having apertures, the layer of protective sheet material and the layer of uncured adhesive material to a curing operation, thereby causing the layer of adhesive material to preferentially adhere to the sheet layer having apertures outside the apertures, and to adhere to the protective sheet layer at said apertures.
