An adhesive dressing suitable for moist wounds includes a first layer comprising a substrate having a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive on a wound facing surface and a second layer comprising a moisture vapour permeable continuous film. The second layer is attached to the non wound facing surface of the first layer at spaced apart intervals thereby to form a plurality of discrete cellular voids between said first and second layers. The first layer has apertures therein to allow passage of liquids therethrough into the cellular voids and total area of the dressing defined by the cellular voids is from 20 % to 80 % of the total operable area of the dressing.

A method for preparing a thin-edged plaster (1) including a support (2) and an adhesive film system (10) thinning out towards its periphery. Said method is characterized in that it comprises the steps of forming an adhesive system (10) consisting of two or more adhesive layers (11, 12, 13, 14) which are (i) stacked so as to form a series of progressively smaller surfaces from the bottom layer bonded to the support (2) towards the top; and (ii) arranged so that two adjacent adhesive layers (11/12, 12/13, 13/14) are mutually bonded and have different surface areas, the edges of one of said two layers being set back relative to the edges of the other layer. The bottom adhesive layer (11) of said adhesive system (10) is bonded to the support (2) and its surface area is (a) the same size as that of the support (2), and (b) larger than the surface area of every other layer (12, 13, 14) of said adhesive system (10). The product obtained by means of the method is also disclosed.
