    摘要: An apparatus for preparing crystalline particles of a substance suitable for inhalation therapy comprises (i) a first reservoir 3 of said substance dissolved in a liquid solvent; (ii) a second reservoir 3 of liquid antisolvent for said substance which is miscible with the liquid solvent; (iii) a cylindrical mixing chamber 2 having first and second tangential inlet ports and an axial outlet port; (iv) means for delivering the contents of the first and second reservoirs to the mixing chamber in a stream via the first and second inlet ports respectively at independent controlled flow rate, the streams of liquid from t he i nlet a nd o utlet ports being intimately mixed in the cylindrical mixing chamber through formation of a vortex thereby causing precipitation of crystalline particles of the substance; and (vi) means 5 for collecting crystalline particles suspended in the stream of liquid discharged from the outlet port of the mixing chamber.

    摘要: A method of preparing particles of a substance, for example selected from a flavor, fragrance, pigment, dye, biologically active compound or a plastics material, comprises contacting the substance of a formulation (which may include the substance in conjunction with a second solvent) with a first solvent which comprises a C1-C4 hydrofluorocarbon, especially tetrafluoroethane, and subjecting the resultant mixture to a separation process, for example, by allowing the mixture to be sprayed as a mist ( 14 ) from a high pressure environment in a first vessel ( 2 ) to a low pressure environment in a second vessel ( 8 ), thereby to cause separation of a least some of the substance from the first solvent and the formation of fine particles ( 20 ) of the substance.

    摘要: Procédé de solidification d'un liquide consistant à faire descendre la température du liquide en-dessous de son point de congélation et à soumettre le liquide à une perturbation physique, de préférence à irradier le liquide surrefroidi ou partiellement solidifié avec des ultrasons pour maîtriser la nucléation et/ou la cristallogénèse. La fréquence préférée pour les ultrasons est comprise dans la plage 16-100 kHz. La fréquence idéale étant de 20-40 kHz. Selon un mode de réalisation de la présente invention, les liquides surrefroidis sont irradiés à une température pouvant aller jusqu'à 1 °C en-dessous de leur point de congélation pour induire la formation de gros cristaux (500 microns) dans le produit solidifié. Selon un autre mode de réalisation, les liquides partiellement solidifiés sont irradiés à une température plus basse que leur point de congélation de façon à induire la formation de plusieurs petits cristaux (50 microns) dans le produit solidifié. Les dispositifs servant à mettre en oeuvre les procédés présentés sont également décrits.
