The present invention provides methods and devices for fabricating 3D structures and patterns of 3D structures on substrate surfaces, including symmetrical and asymmetrical patterns of 3D structures. Methods of the present invention provide a means of fabricating 3D structures having accurately selected physical dimensions, including lateral and vertical dimensions ranging from 10s of nanometers to 1000s of nanometers. In one aspect, methods are provided using a mask element comprising a conformable, elastomeric phase mask capable of establishing conformal contact with a radiation sensitive material undergoing photoprocessing. In another aspect, the temporal and/or spatial coherence of electromagnetic radiation using for photoprocessing is selected to fabricate complex structures having nanoscale features that do not extend entirely through the thickness of the structure fabricated.

A carbon nanotube (CNT) sheet containing CNTs having a median length of at least 0.05 mm and an aspect ratio of at least 2,500; L arranged b a randomly oriented, uniformly distributed pattern, and having a basis weight of at least 1 gsm and a relative density of less than 1.0. The CNT sheet is manufactured by applying a CNT suspension in a continuous pool over a filter material to a depth sufficient to prevent puddling of the CNT suspension upon the surface of the •filter material, and drawing the dispersing liquid through the filter material to provide a uniform CNT dispersion and form the CNT sheet. The CNT sheet is useful in making CNT composite laminates and structures having utility for electromagnetic wave absorption, lightning strike dissipation. EMI shielding, thermal interface pads, energy storage, and heat dissipation.

The present catalyst can be used in the partial oxidation, steam reforming and autothermal reforming of hydrocarbon feedstock to produce synthesis gas. The present method for preparing a catalyst that contains group VIII metals, including Pt, Pd or Rh, and oxidic promoters (Al2O3, CeO 2 and ZrO2) is characterized in that a polymetallic oxide composition is pretreated with methane until the formation of metals and the accumulation of 5-10 wt% carbon. A mixture of this material, pseudoboehmite and tetraalkoxysilane is applied to a refractory metal alloy, annealed in an inert atmosphere and steam treated.

Provided are embodiments of a method of synthesizing nano scale electrode materials using an ultrafast combustion technique and nano scale electrode materials synthesized using the method. The method does not require a process of annealing reaction products required for synthesis of electrode materials or any other additional processes, such as cleaning, filtering, and drying processes, so that it can take only several seconds to several minutes to obtain a resultant product.
