Abstract:
A porous polymeric medium having a low affinity for amide group-containing and adjuvant-containing materials is provided comprising a porous polyvinylidene difluoride substrate and a surface-modifying polymeric material having a low affinity for amide group-containing materials formed in situ at and covalently bonded to the surface of the porous polyvinylidene difluoride substrate, the surface-modifying polymeric material being derived from a mixture of first and second monomers. The first monomer includes an unsaturated monofunctional monomer having at least one hydroxyl group and the second monomer includes an unsaturated monomer.

Abstract:
A hydrophobic polymeric microporous membrane having a CWST of less than about 28 dynes/cm is obtained by forming a (co)polymer of a fluorine-containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer that is permanently chemically bonded to a microporous membrane substrate.
Abstract:
Articles comprise a body made of hydrophobic synthetic partially open-cell material at least partially covered with a layer of hydrophilic material. The body of each article is characterized by the fact that it has a specific surface at least equal to about 40 cm²/cm³, and at least about 25% of its internal and external surface has a surface energy at least equal to about 73 x 10⁻⁷ newton/meter. The articles find use as sponges, so-called suede type materials, and wiping clothes. The sponges may be used for wiping, cleaning and other household or industrial uses.
Abstract:
A hollow fiber microporous membrane of a polyolefin having a polyvinyl alcohol chemically bonded to the inner and outer surfaces of the hollow fiber membrane and the surfaces defining the pores thereof exhibits a good hydrophilic property as well as good chemical resistance, mechanical strength, water permeation performance and durability. This membrane has an average pore diameter of 0.01 to 5 µm and a porosity of 20 to 80%. The polyvinyl alcohol/polyolefin composition ratio is constant in the membrane thickness direction of the hollow fiber, the oxygen/carbon atomic ratio X on the outer surface of the hollow fiber microporous membrane is 10 to 50%, and the condition defined by the ratio X/2 ≧ Y is satisfied between said oxygen/carbon atomic ratio X and the oxygen/carbon atomic ratio Y in the entire microporous membrane. The membrane is prepared by irradiating a hollow fiber microporous membrane of a polyolefin with ionizing radiations, reacting the membrane with vinyl acetate and then hydrolyzing the membrane.

Abstract:
The present disclosure provides composites comprising an open cell foam and a small pore area material, methods for their preparation, articles of manufacture comprising them and methods for preparing the same.
Abstract:
The invention disclos a class of foam materials characterized by regions of material unidirectionality. After acidic hydrolysis of cellulose, the obtained cellulose crystals are suspended in water and unidirectionally frozen. The porous product obtained after solvent exchange and drying shows a structure of unididirectionally oriented pores.
Abstract:
Described herein are impregnated products comprising a cellulosic substrate having internal voids; and a reaction product of a composition comprising: an acrylate monomer; a biobased component; and an acrylate additive; wherein the cellulosic substrate is impregnated with said composition. Methods of making and using the products are also described.
