摘要:
A metal-coated fiber, characterized in that it is prepared by a method comprising coating a fiber with a metal and then subjecting the resultant fiber to a heat treatment at a temperature of the crystallization temperature of the fiber or higher and lower than the melting temperature of the fiber; and the metal-coated fiber wherein the metal is an electroconductive metal and a corrosion-resistant metal coating is applied on the electroconductive metal coating. The metal-coated fiber is preferably subjected to slow cooling after the above heat treatment. An electroconductive resin composition which comprises a base resin and, incorporated therein, a metal-coated short fiber being prepared by a method comprising coating the fiber with an electroconductive metal and then subjecting the resultant fiber to a heat treatment ia also provided. The metal-coated fiber exhibits excellent adhesion strength of the coating and corrosion resistance, and the electroconductive resin composition exhibits excellent electric conductivity.

The present invention provides a nonwoven metal fabric for various uses, such as a filter used for purification of exhaust gas from automobiles or semiconductor manufacturing gas, a catalyst carrier of fuel cell, and so forth, in which the corrosion resistance is improved without compromising the property in terms of pressure loss. The nonwoven metal fabric of the present invention is formed with the metal fibers wherein the relation of the fiber diameter Da at the surface part of the gas inlet side and the fiber diameter Db at the central part of the thickness direction is expressed as the equation Da≧1.5 × Db and the fiber diameter Da at the surface part of the gas inlet side is not less than 15 µm and not more than 60µm.

A heat-resistant garment (111) has an outer surface (112) mainly comprises metal fibres to provide heat-resistance against contact heat. Different types of heat-resistant textile fabrics with metal fibres to provide the outer surface of the heat-resistant garment can be obtained by weaving, knitting or needle-punching. Heat-resistant garments can be used to provide protection against contact heat to person, animal or object on which the heat-resistant garment is worn.

A family of composites are characterized as a network of a first fiber and at least a second fiber, where at least the first fibers have a multiplicity of bonded junctions at their point of crossing. The largest class has metals as one or both of the fibers, although the second fiber can be of materials such as carbon, ceramics, and high surface area materials. The composites can be simply prepared and manifest enormous variation in such properties as void volume, pore size, and electrical properties generally.

The invention provides a heat-resistant felt for hot products which is sufficiently heat-resistant for conveying or placing hot products thereon in manufacturing processes of iron and steel, non-ferrous metal, and ceramics products, and contributes to the improvement of the quality and life of products. A heat-resistant fiber web of a blend or laminate comprising metal fibers and inorganic fibers or a heat-resistant fiber web of a blend or laminate comprising metal fibers or inorganic fibers and heat-resistant organic fibers is needle-punched with or without a heat-resistant ground fabric laminated so as to intermingle.

An unwoven metal fabric suitable for use as a battery electrode, a catalyst or a filter, and a method of manufacturing such fabric. An unwoven carbon fabric made up of carbon fibers bound together by a resin is heated to carbonize the binder resin and thus to impart electrical conductivity to the resin, and at the same time finely roughen the surfaces of the carbon fibers and the resin. A plating layer is directly formed on the unwoven carbon fabric thus formed by electroplating. Then, the unwoven carbon fabric is removed by roasting to provide an aggregate of metal fibers joined together and having their voids communicating with one another.

This invention relates to a production method of a metallic fiber non-woven fabric having core materials obtained by depositing a metal by plating or the like method on a core material non-woven fabric obtained by combining mutually core materials such as carbon fibers by a binder to prepare a metal coated core material non-woven fabric and then annealing the metal coated non-woven fabric, to a production method of a hollow metallic fiber non-woven fabric obtained by removing the core material non-woven fabric from the metal coated core material non-woven fabric described above and further to a metallic fiber non-woven fabric having the core materials and a hollow metallic fiber non-woven fabric obtained by these methods. The resulting metallic fiber non-woven fabric has high strength at the bond portions of the metallic fibers and has a high void ratio.
