The method comprises the steps of switching said auxiliary relay (2) in order to accelerate the sprocket of the starter (5), determining the rotation speed of the ring gear, determining the duration of the acceleration phase of the sprocket, inserting the sprocket of the starter (5) into the engine ring, switching said first switched power line, withdrawing the sprocket of the starter (5) from the engine ring and cutting any power supply to the electric motor of the starter (5).
