Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und ein Netzwerk zur Übertragung von Daten in mindestens zwei Funkkommunikationssystemen (UMTS, WLAN), wobei mindestens ein lokales Funkkommunikationssystem (WLAN) an mindestens ein zellulares, supralokales Funkkommunikationssystem (UMTS) insbesondere über eine Netzanbindungs-Einheit (IWU) angebunden ist und wobei eine Teilnehmerstation (MT) mit den mindestens zwei Funkkommunikationssystemen (UMTS, WLAN) über jeweils mindestens eine Funkzugangseinrichtung (NodeB, AP) kommunizieren kann. Erfindungsgemäß überträgt die Funkzugangseinrichtung (NodeB) des mindestens einen zellularen, supralokalen Funkkommunikationssystems (UMTS) an die Teilnehmerstation (MT) Informationen bezüglich des mindestens einen lokalen Funkkommunikationssystem (WLAN) als Broadcast. Diese Informationen werden bevorzugt in Form von Systeminformationsblöcken übertragen.

In einem drahtlosen lokalen Kommunikationsnetz, einem sogenannten Wireless Local Area Network, wird ein vorausbezahlter Wertcode von einem drahtlosen Kommunikationsendgerät (1) über eine Luftschnittstelle (21) an eine Zugangspunkteinheit (2) des drahtlosen lokalen Kommunikationsnetzes, ein so genannter Access Point, übermittelt. Durch einen zentralisierten Zugangskontrollserver (3) wird die Gültigkeit des empfangenen Wertcodes in einer Wertcodedatenbank (32) überprüft. Gegebenenfalls wird der Zugang zum drahtlosen lokalen Kommunikationsnetz und zu damit verbundenen Kommunikationsnetzen (5), beispielsweise das Internet, für das drahtlose Kommunikationsendgerät (1) freigeschaltet. Nach der Freischaltung wird dem Betreiber der Zugangspunkteinheit (2) ein Geldbetrag gutgeschrieben und der validierte Wertcode in der Wertcodedatenbank (32) entwertet.

The present application relates to dual-mode GSM/WLAN terminals and how to establish calls in a convenient and cost-effective manner. In the prior art the user has to manually select between the access technology to use. This problem is solved by the application in that, when a terminal with an active account enters the coverage area of the WLAN, the server registers the terminal to the WLAN. When another terminal sends a call request to it (INVITE sip: 358041111111@server), the [SIP] server will proxy the call request message to it (INVITE sip:userB@10.0.8). If the called terminal is not registered or does not even have an account then the [SIP] server will tell the calling terminal to do a GSM call.

At present, there are operators which perform a Location Update procedure for a subscriber via Local Number Server under invoice agreement with the subscriber himself, and even where the subscriber is roaming in an area without roaming agreement with the subscriber's operator. In this situation, the subscriber's operator loses revenues because it has no roaming agreements with the operator where the subscriber is roaming, whilst the latter gets revenues from the subscriber by using the subscriber's operator Subscriber Identity Module or newer operator's card. To avoid this situation, there is provided a home location server arranged to determine whether roaming restrictions apply for a home subscriber before providing authentication data for said home subscriber and either deny the authentication data for the home subscriber to the requesting entity or apply a charging or billing for the provision of the authentication data for said home subscriber.

Third party computer devices, such as application download servers, arc accessible on the wireless network and selectively provide applications and services to the wireless devices, and the interaction of the wireless devices with the third party computer devices causes billable events to occur, and a billing server gathers the billable event data, generates billing for the wireless device subscribers, and effects payment of the third parties for billable events at the computer devices of that third party.
