An improved center-tube sealing grommet for use in a dual-flow filter assembly has annular lands which provide additional support to the filter elements located between the lands and a sealing flange. A fillet is incorporated into each annular land, extending from the grommet body to the annular land. Each fillet is positioned in a manner so as to facilitate the installation of the grommet into its respective filter element. Each annular land locks onto its respective filter element, providing a more rigid assembly that allows the filter element to be preassembled to the grommet prior to their installation into the filter housing. The improved center-tube sealing grommet provides increased stability which allows the axis of the filter elements to be maintained to the axis of the filter housing during the assembly of the dual-flow filter assembly, thereby reducing assembly defects.

According to the invention, several filter elements (13, 14) for purifying a liquid are connected with a connecting piece (21) to form a single constructional unit which is then arranged in a filter housing (12). One of the advantages of the inventive filter is that the filter elements (13, 14) can be connected before they are introduced into the filter housing (12). This makes the final assembly of the complete filter (11) considerably easier by reducing the number of parts. The connecting piece (21) can also be used to separate a flow of liquid into two sub-flows. The sub-flows can be filtered through different filter elements so that they differ in their degrees of purity.

The invention relates to a filter provided with a bypass opening (14) to be used especially as an oil filter in hydraulic systems. The filter includes a casing-like filtering element (1) mounted on a support (3), whereby the stream to be filtered can be conducted into the space (11) defined by the element such that filtering takes place from this space through the filtering element envelope towards the outside of the space. The bypass opening (14) is produced by prestressing the filtering element (1) and the support against each other with a spring (5) such that, as the pressure in the filter exceeds the prestressing force, they will be dislodged relative to each other, leaving the opening concerned between the support and the filtering element (1). Essential features of the filter of the invention are that the filter is equipped with a frame (17) between the casing-like filtering element (1) and the support (3), that the frame and the support are prestressed against each other to leave a bypass opening (14) between them under the effect of pressure, and that the filtering element is removably attached to the prestressed frame. The frame (17) and the support (3) are kept continuously prestressed in the filter, while the cylindrical filtering element (1) attached to the frame, which does not affect prestressing, can be removed and replaced when needed.
