摘要: A multi-bladed propeller and shaft assembly is provided in which air can be fed to the propeller blades to reduce the effects of cavitation. A shaft (10) leads to a multi-bladed propeller (15) and carries a sleeve (18) formed with inlet passages (20) and axial and radial passages (21, 24) leading to the respective blades (17). A slip ring (45) supported in an anti-rotation device (62) allows the shaft sleeve (18) to rotate within axially spaced bearings (46, 47) of the slip ring (45). Axially spaced air seals (49, 50) together define with the body (48) of the slip ring an annulus (51) within which inlet passages (20) rotate. Each seal (49 or 50) is formed as a multiplicity of arcuate segments (80) resiliently biased towards the sleeve (18) and having movably selaed end face portions (81, 82) to maintain pressure tightness. The body (48) further has a radial flow passage (57) for admission of air under pressure to the annular space (57) and a flexible fluid connector (56) connects the radial flow passage (57) to an air supply line (54) leading from the hull structure. The present shaft delivery slip ring avoids the need to feed air down the whole length of the propeller shaft or to feed air into the hub through a slip ring making wiping contact with the hub, which is structurally more complex.

摘要: A photoconductive composition comprises a photoconductor and a sensitiser. The sensitiser has the formula
wherein R represents alkyl; R1 represents H, alkyl or aryl; R2 represents the atoms required to complete a hetero or carboxyclic ring ; A represents an anion ; and n represents the valency of the anion. The composition is sensitive to both laser light sources and tungsten light sources and is useful in electrophotographic reproduction.

A cable (22) is reeved around crown block (21) and around a travelling block (23) which carries a tool carrier (24). The two ends of cable (22) are reeved around two second pulleys (26A,26B) rotatably mounted on the cross-head (17). End (22A) of cable (22) is connected to a draw-works and end (228) of cable (22) is connected to a tie-down.

摘要: In the processing of light-sensitive media, for example lithographic printing plates, the active components of the developer are used up and need replenishment, particularly when silver halide or similar technology is involved. The modulation signal of a laser used to expose the light-sensitive media is integrated to provide a signal indicative of the exposed image area to be developed and this signal is used to control the addition of replenishment material. Replenishment required to overcome the degradation of the active components with time may also be incorporated. In a preferred embodiment of a replenishment control circuit a laser beam modulator 31 supplies a modulation signal to an integrator comprising a high output frequency sampler 32, a counter 33 and a laser-on counter 34a. A developer circulating pump 35 and a replenishment pump 36 are controlled by a microprocessor 34 which contains the laser-on counter 34a and a replenishment dose required counter 34c fed by the counter 34a and a time base generator 34b which provides a purely time-dependent component of the replenishment required count. A replenishment dose control counter 34d controls operation of the pumps 35 and 36 in dependence upon the content of the dose required counter 34c.

摘要: A probe is disclosed for detecting the level of a liquid or of a flowable, pulverulent solid in a container, e.g. the level of a beverage in a bottle. The probe comprises first, second and third elongate, electrically conductive elements (1,2,3) which are free from direct electrical contact with one another. They are disposed substantially in a mutually parallel relationship, although a slight divergence from parallelism is acceptable. The second and third elements (2,3) are preferably substantially equal in length and in electrical characteristics, and are coated with an electrically insulating, liquid-impermeable coating (4) over substantially the whole of their length except for (i) a first region (5) intermediate the ends of the second element and (ii) a second region (6) intermediate the ends of the third element. The mid-points of these first and second regions are spaced from one another in the axial direction, i.e. they are at non-equivalent positions along the lengths of the second and third elements. The probe also comprises means (7) for applying an electrical potential to the first element, and means (8,9,10,11) for comparing the current flowing through, or the potential difference between, the second and third elements when electrical potential is applied to the first element. Conveniently, the first element (1) is in the form of a tube having the second and third elements (2,3), in the form of wires, adjacent to an electrically insulated surface region of the first element.

摘要: A device for use in a bottle filling head comprises a vent tube in the form of an electrically insulating tubular member and at least two elongate electrical conductors which are substantially parallel, wherein (a) the electrical conductors are embedded in the walls of the tubular member, terminating in connectors at or close to one end of the tubular member and extending out of the opposite lower end of the tubular member; (b) at least said opposite end of the tubular member is open; and (c) the tubular member includes at least one port which permits free communication with said opposite end of the tubular member. The elongate electrical conductors are preferably arranged to act as a level detector.
The invention also provides a bottle filling apparatus incorporating such a device in a bottle filling head. The apparatus also includes circuit means connected to the elongate electrical conductors of the device and arranged to allow said conductors to function as a level detector, the circuit means being arranged to produce an output command when the response of said conductors corresponds to a pre-set level within a bottle; and process control means, responsive to commands from said circuit means; for controlling operation of the bottle filling head and supply of liquid thereto.

摘要: In the investment casting of hollow parts in a shell mould or in a block mould a slender core (2) is supported by means of chaplets (7) in an outer mould part (1). The chaplets are made of expanded metal and are preferably bent to form a 'C', 'V' or 'U' shaped cross section. This form of chaplet provides lor good support whilst promoting diffusion thereof during the casting of the molten metal in the mould.
