A system is provided for utilizing spool movement information in a motorized seat belt (MSB) control system algorithm to achieve better levels of comfort and safety. The MSB control system algorithm controls execution of multiple modes including a no friction mode, a stowage mode, a slack reduction mode, an out of position warning mode, a medium pull-back mode, and a high pull-back mode. The MSB control system algorithm also controls execution of a low power mode initiated after the other vehicle modules are put to sleep to provide the ability to stow the seat belt after the vehicle has been idling for some period of time. The MSB control system algorithm also controls belt monitoring functions defined based on a buckle switch state that indicates the buckled or unbuckled state of the seat belt. Belt monitoring consists of spool rotation being converted to counts based on the resolution provided by the spool sensor.

A movable or removable seat for a motor vehicle is disclosed which preferably takes the form of a removable vehicle seat (1). The removable seat incorporates a first inductor (17) which forms part of an inductive coupling between the removable seat and a second inductor (21) which is mounted on the motor vehicle. The first inductor forms part of a resonant circuit which incorporates at least one capacitor. The resonant frequency of the resonant circuit is variable in response to a sensed parameter such as, for example, the position of a head-rest of the seat, the inclination of the back-rest of the seat and such like. A central unit (23) generates a square wave which excites the resonant circuit. A signal is transmitted from the resonant circuit to the central unit (23) which analyses the resonant frequency of the resonant circuit.

The seatbelt device of a vehicle comprises at least two seatbelt mechanisms including the webbings (21,22) and the first pre-tensioner mechanisms (25,26) operative to wind up the webbings so as to apply the specified tension to the webbings when the crash pre-detecting device (6) detects the vehicle crash in advance, and the control device (37) to control the seatbelt mechanism, wherein there is provided the vehicle turning control device (35) which operates to control the braking force of the brake device of the vehicle so that the vehicle turning state can be the target turning state, and the control device (37) operates at least the two first pre-tensioner mechanisms (25,26) when the vehicle turning control device operates. Accordingly, the pre-tensioner mechanisms (25,26) operate additionally when the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) operates, thereby increasing restraint force of the passengers and improving the safety of the passengers.

A seatbelt apparatus is provided to apply a proper restrictive feeling on passengers, corresponding to traveling condition of a vehicle. In the seatbelt apparatus, on receipt of detection signals from a fore-and-aft acceleration sensor 97 and a left-and-right acceleration sensor 99, a controller 101 controls respective tensions of seatbelts for driver seat and assistant driver's seat individually. Owing to the controller 101, it is established at a vehicle's breaking to make a seatbelt tension of the assistant driver's seat larger than that of the driver seat. When the vehicle is turning, it is carried out to make a seatbelt tension of the driver seat larger than that of the assistant driver's seat.
