An object of the invention is to provide a structure for a side portion of a vehicle body, in which deformation of a hollow cross-section shape of a side sill, which is caused by a side collision load inputted to a vehicle body, can be suppressed without causing a significant increase in the weight of the vehicle body. In the invention, when a side collision load is inputted to a center pillar 4 of the side portion of a vehicle body, thereby causing a lower end portion of the center pillar 4 to pull up a side sill 1, a bead 7G of a bulkhead 7 made of sheet metal and provided in the side sill 1 reinforces the compressive strength in the diagonal direction of a hollow cross-section between a lower portion of a side sill outer member 1A constituting an outer wall portion of the side sill 1 and an upper portion of a side sill inner member 1B constituting an inner wall portion of the side sill 1, thereby suppressing deformation of the hollow cross-section shape of the side sill 1. Weiterhin betrifft die Erfindung ein Dachrahmenprofil 7 und eine dreischenkelige Knotenverbindung zum Verschweißen der Karosseriesäule mit dem Dachrahmenprofil. Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es, die Torsionssteifigkeit einer Kfz-Karosserie zu verbessern. Erfindungsgemäß wird ein mit einem Prägefeld 9 versehenes Ansatzstück 8 zum Verbinden des Dachrahmens mit den Karosseriesäulen 3 eingesetzt. Hierdurch lassen sich im Prägefeld der seitliche Dachkanal 15 und die Karosseriesäule 3 zusätzlich verschweißen.

A method of manufacturing a frame assembly includes the steps of providing an underbody assembly (15) including a plurality of structural components that are secured together so as to be generally planar in shape; providing first and second sidebody assemblies (10a,10b) that each include a plurality of structural components that are secured together so as to be generally planar in shape; and securing the underbody assembly (15) to the first and second sidebody assemblies (10a,10b) to form a frame assembly. The underbody assembly can be formed by securing first and second longitudinally extending, closed channel beams (10a,10b) to a plurality of closed channel cross members (11a,11b). Each of the sidebody assemblies can be formed by securing a closed channel lower rocker rail (20) and closed channel upper roof rail (21) to a plurality of pillars (24a,25a,26a). Each of the pillars can be formed by initially securing a first stamping to the lower rocker rail (20) and the upper roof rail (21), then securing a second stamping to each of the first stampings. The underbody assembly can be secured to the first and second sidebody assemblies by magnetic pulse welding to form the frame assembly.
