A porphyrazine derivative in which porphyrazine forms a condensed ring with thiophene and a skeleton of the thiophene has a functional group such as an alkyl group at position 2 has a high solubility in an organic solvent and exhibits a high crystallinity. Therefore, the porphyrazine derivative is suitably used in crystalline thin-film formation using a solution process. This provides a novel porphyrazine derivative and an intermediate thereof, which porphyrazine derivative has a high solubility in an organic solvent and is excellent in molecular orientation, a method for production of the porphyrazine derivative and the intermediate, and use of the porphyrazine derivative and the intermediate.

The present invention refers to the novel paramagnetic metal-phthalocyanine complexes and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof which are useful as contrast agents for MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), diagnostic X-ray imaging and computed tomography(CT) .The present invention also refers to contrast agents for imaging comprising the new paramagnetic metal-phthalocyanine complexes described above. The new contrast agents of the present inventions show high imaging enhancement effects at lower concentrations and are more safe over the previously reported contrast agents.

Phthalocyanine compounds are described, which are represented by the following general formula (I): wherein R₁ - R₈ are individually a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aryl group, a - h stand individually for an integer of 1-20, and M denotes two hydrogen atoms or a metal atom, metal halide, metal oxide, metal hydroxide, dialkylmetal, diarylmetal, bis(alkyloxy)metal or bis(trialkylsilyloxy)metal. Optical recording media and liquid crystal display panels, which contain at least one of the phthalocyanine compounds, are also described.

@ Naphthalocyanine compounds represented by the general formula wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 , which may be the same or different, are each a straight chain or branched chain alkyl group of 5 to 12 carbon atoms and M is a metal selected from the group consisting of Cu, Ni, Mg, Pb, Pd, V, Co, Nb, Al, Sn, In, Fe, and Ge, or its oxide, chloride or bromide, are bluish green or green crystals and are superior in absorption of near infrared rays of 750 to 850 nm, highly resistant to light, heat, acids and alkalis, soluble in organic acids, liquid crystals and resins, and accordingly are very useful as a dyestuff capable of absorbing near infrared rays.
