摘要: Methods for automated uniformity assessment and modification of image nonuniformities using an image measurement device capable of determining image reflectance and/or transmittance as a function of position, such as a spectrophotometer, a colorimeter, and/or a densitometer. One or more of these devices scan an image on a substrate, such as a sheet, thereby generating data representing image characteristics, such as, for example, image non-uniformity. The sheet may contain a reference/test pattern including one column, strip or patch intended to have a uniform density. This data generated by the device after the scan of the substrate is analyzed with signal processing algorithms for image characteristics assessment, including image spatial uniformity and compared to reference image characteristics including image spatial uniformity. An image modification profile may be generated to be applied to a marking system to thereby alter subsequent image data and improve image spatial uniformity of the marking system.

摘要: A calibration system is disclosed for use with an imaging system including a laser line illumination source (10). The calibration system includes an imaging head (16), a mask (24) having a calibration opening (26) through which a portion of the line of laser illumination (10) may pass, and a calibration unit (20). The imaging head (16) is movable along a slow scan direction with respect to an imaging surface (18) for imaging a line of laser illumination (22) in the slow scan direction. The calibration opening (26) has a width in the slow scan direction that is larger than a full width half maximum distance of an imaging spot of a smallest addressable picture element of the line of laser illumination (22). The calibration unit (20) is for receiving a portion of the line of laser illumination (22) through the calibration opening (26) and for processing the received portion of the line of laser illumination (22).

摘要: The print quality of printing on a substrate (15) (such as a business form in a moving web configuration) is determined by imaging a small L-shaped border element (16, 31, 33) in an unobtrusive area of the substrate which is indicative of the image quality of the print engine which effects the imaging. Using a high resolution electronic camera (19) and a stroboscopic light (18), electronic data about the border element is fed to a computer (12), which electronically analyzes it for print quality, including measured width, stroke reflectance/background reflectance (which can yield optical density), edge density, edge roughness, solid character fill, and background dusting in non-print areas. The print engine (11) may then be controlled in response to the quality determination. Coded information, and grid (33), may be printed within the area defined by the L-shaped border element, and the information may be obtained by scanning at another location (26).

摘要: According to a method and apparatus for detecting defective printed matter in a printing press, each pixel data of a printed matter serving as a reference is stored as reference image data. Each pixel data of printed matter serving as a test object is input as test image data. Corresponding pixel data of the reference image data and the test image data are compared with each other to detect defective printed matter. A change in tone is recognized by accumulating and comparing the reference image data and the test image data in units of predetermined areas. The reference image data is automatically updated and stored on the basis of new test image data upon recognition of the change in tone.

摘要: An image recording apparatus for recording an image on a recording medium by causing a recording head having the arrangement of a plurality of recording elements to conduct its main scanning for the recording medium interrelatedly in the direction opposite to the arrangement of the recording elements comprises setting means to set the number of main scannings by the recording head; main scanning means to perform recording by plural numbers of main scannings with respect to one pixel by causing the recording head to conduct its main scannings for the same recording area of the recording medium in accordance with the number set by the setting means; and sub-scanning means to cause the recording head and the recording medium to be sub-scanned interrelatedly per main scanning in an amount smaller than the width of the arrangement of the recording elements of the recording head. Hence, even if a disabled ejection occurs in one scanning at the time of recording by a multi-scanning, the missing dot is complemented by the following scan to make it possible to obtain an image having no image defectives at all times.
