摘要:
Components for the manufacture of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells are provided, as well as apparatus and automatable methods for their manufacture by rotary die cutting and by lamination of various layers to form membrane electrode assemblies. A method and apparatus for performing the method are provided for making a membrane electrode assembly comprising the steps of providing a web of polymer electrolyte membrane material (110) and a laminating station (50), where the web of polymer electrolyte membrane material (110) is drawn between a pair of laminating rollers (180, 190) in the laminating station which form a laminating nip; die-cutting a first and second web of catalyst decal materials or electrode materials to make first and second workpieces (100) at first and second rotary die stations (10, 20); which typically have a shape other than a four-sided parallelogram; holding the die-cut workpieces (100) by action of sub-ambient air pressure to an endless perforated belt (120) of first and second vacuum conveyors, typically before they are fully cut from the first and second webs; transporting first and second workpieces (100) to opposing sides of the membrane (110) in the laminating station; concurrently feeding the first and second workpieces (100) into the laminating nip adjacent to the membrane, typically before they are fully released by the first and second vacuum conveyors (30, 40); and laminating the first and second workpieces to the membrane, advantageously in accurate registration.

A method for manufacturing shaped components for absorbent articles from web materials including the following steps. A first web of material is provided in a machine direction. The first web is cut into at least two shaped strips having alternating nested projecting portions defined by at least one shaping cut having a pattern extending in the machine direction and alternately extending in the cross machine direction to alternate distal points located between longitudinal side edges of the first web. At least a first and a second of the shaped strips are separated. A second web of material is provided in the machine direction. At least the first shaped strip is joined to the second web. The second web is repositioned in the cross machine direction a predetermined distance. At least the second shaped strip is joined to the second web. The resultant composite web is cut into separate shaped components.

A method for assembling a refastenable absorbent garment includes moving a landing material in a machine direction, wherein the landing material has opposite lateral side edges, moving a fastener material in a machine direction, wherein the fastener material comprises a refastenable portion and a base portion, and removeably attaching the refastenable portion of the fastener material to at least one of the side edges of the landing material. The method preferably further includes successively cutting the landing material with the fastener material removeably attached thereto along a cross direction and thereby forming a plurality of landing members with a fastener member removeably attached thereto and successively rotating each of the plurality of landing members with the fastener member removeably attached thereto. The method preferably further includes moving a base web in a machine direction, successively attaching each of the landing members to the base web and attaching the base portion of the fastener member to the base web. An apparatus for fabricating the refastenable absorbent garment is also provided.

A method for fabricating a refastenable absorbent garment comprises moving a continuous absorbent garment subassembly in a machine direction, wherein the continuous absorbent garment subassembly comprises a continuous front body panel web, a continuous rear body panel web and a plurality of discrete crotch portions spaced along the machine direction and connecting the continuous front and rear body panel webs. The crotch portions are folded in a cross direction with one of the continuous front and rear body panel webs folded over the other of the continuous front and rear body panel webs in the cross direction. The method further comprises successively cutting the continuous front and rear body panels of the continuous absorbent garment subassembly in the cross direction and thereby forming a plurality of discrete absorbent garment subassemblies, each of which comprises a front body panel and a rear body panel, wherein the front and rear body panels are connected with the crotch portion. Each of the front and rear body panels have opposite side edges, wherein the side edges form the leading and trailing edges of the discrete absorbent garment subassemblies in the machine direction. The method further includes successively rotating each of the discrete absorbent garment subassemblies such that the side edges are spaced apart in the cross direction. The method further comprises attaching a fastener member to at least one of the front and rear body panels on each of the discrete absorbent garment subassemblies. An apparatus for fabricating a refastenable absorbent garment includes a product rotator, at least one vacuum conveyor positioned downstream of the product rotator and a fastener applicator positioned downstream of the at least one vacuum conveyor.

An apparatus for applying strip fastener elements or zippers to web material includes an unwind stand (24) holding a roll of film material (26), an infeed dancer arrangement of rollers (36), a zipper apparatus (200) which conditions zipper material, cuts zippers and delivers zippers to a zipper feed apparatus. The zipper feed apparatus (200) loads zippers into a sealing platen (326) of a rotating turret (308). The rotating turret carries the zippers successively to a position adjacent a surface of the film and a seal bar (352) presses the film to successive zippers to seal the zippers thereto while a new zipper is being received in a sealing platen of the turret at a loading station at a rotational position at a distance from the sealing station. The film with zippers attached is drawn downstream of the turret to a rewind dancer roll assembly (501) and thereafter to a rewind stand (600) for winding into a roll of zippered film (602).

A process for producing a friction plate (F) having a flat friction surface includes a step of provisionally arranging a plurality of sector-shaped lining segments (24a) punched out of a friction lining tape material, in a generally annular form on an index table (32) so as not to overlap with each other, a step of correcting the provisional arrangement of the lining segments (24a) into an annular form having no gaps between the lining segments (24a) by moving together the plurality of lining segments (24a), provisionally arranged on the index table (32), towards the centre of the index table (32) and a step of adhering the plurality of lining segments (24a), correctly arranged in the annular form, to a surface of a core plate (23). A friction plate (F) having a flat friction surface can thereby be obtained with low cost.
