Novel intermediates for non-ionic polyiodo amino- substituted benzenepolyamides having polyol substituents on the amide nitrogens are provided which are 5-amino-6-hydroxy-1,3-dioxepanes. The compounds provide an economic and efficient route to novel contrast media having excellent chemical and physiological properties. Also provided are methods for preparing the subject compounds. The invention described herein was made in the course of work under a grant from the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Chloracetaldehydacetalen einwertig, zweiwertig oder höherwertiger aliphatischer Alkohole bei dem aus einer wässrigen Chloracetaldehyd-Lösung in Gegenwart des zu acetalisierenden Alkohols und eines sauren Katalysators durch azeotrope Entfernung von Wasser mit Hilfe eines Lösemittels das Chloracetaldehydacetal gewonnen wird, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Lösemittel ein halogeniertes Lösemittel ist.

Orthoborate salts suitable for use as electrolytes in lithium batteries and methods for making the electrolyte salts are provided. The electrolytic salts have one of the formulae (I). In this formula anionic orthoborate groups are capped with two bidentate chelating groups, Y1 and Y2. Certain preferred chelating groups are dibasic acid residues, most preferably oxalyl, malonyl and succinyl, disulfonic acid residues, sulfoacetic acid residues and halo-substituted alkylenes. The salts are soluble in non-aqueous solvents and polymeric gels and are useful components of lithium batteries in electrochemical devices.

A process for producing amide derivatives represented by general formula [XV] or enantiomers thereof, novel intermediate compounds useful for producing these compounds, etc., and a process for producing the same, wherein each symbol is as defined in the specification. Compared with the conventional processes, the above process can be very easily effected and enables an efficient production of the compounds [XV], i.e., those involving the compounds [XVI] having an HIV protease inhibitory effect in high yields. The n ovel intermediates are highly advantageous as intermediates for producing not only the above compounds [XVI] but also those which are useful as an X-ray contrast medium, etc.
