The present invention relates to an end module assembly (10) for installation on a motor vehicle and a method for assembling the same. The assembly comprises an exterior fascia (18) configured to comprise a portion of a vehicle body when the assembly is installed on the vehicle. An external visible component (20, 22, 24, 26) is configured to be positioned in a predetermined orientation with respect to the fascia with surfaces thereof facing exteriorly of the fascia. The external component is positioned relative to the fascia such that the position controlling portion (e.g. 17, 23, 25) guides the external component into the predetermined orientation and supports the component there at, thereby allowing the assembly to be installed on the vehicle without requiring reorientation of the component. The present invention also relates to a loading fixture for installing a front end module assembly onto a motor vehicle.

A second frame member (22) extends about periphery of the glazing (16) and overlaps the flange (50). The second frame member (22) is disposed opposite the first frame member (20) with the flange (50) and the roof cover (18) disposed therebetween. The second frame member (22) has a plurality of fasteners (60) each interlocking with a corresponding one of the fastener receiving structures (86) to fasten the second frame member (22) to the flange (50) to thereby secure the glazing (16) to the roof cover (18).

The method comprises forming the main body (11) by extrusion; placing one edge of the metal cover member (60) in an edge receiving recess (62) of the main body (11); pivoting the metal cover member (60) generally about the one edge so as to cause an opposite edge of the metal cover member to engage the rigid portion (18) of the mounting structure (50); forcing the opposite edge of the metal cover member to move in sliding engagement across the rigid portion; outwardly flexing the channel configuration of the metal cover member as a result of the cover member being forced to move in sliding engagement across the rigid portion; and inwardly flexing the cover member back towards its original configuration and into gripping engagement with the rigid portion to secure the cover member to the main body.

The component supporting assembly (50) may be selectively adjusted between a contracted configuration in which each of the pairs of opposed mounting pins (66, 66'), and thus the components mounted thereon, are oriented in contracted proximity to one another, so as to minimize the overall size of the wagon (20) with the components mounted thereon to accommodate given dimensional limitations of the painting facility and an expanded configuration in which the pairs of opposed mounting pins (66, 66'), and thus the components mounted thereon, are oriented so as to be expanded apart from one another so that individual components may be mounted and dismounted onto the component mounting pins (66) with reduced danger of bumping an adjacently mounted component and thus damaging the surface finish of the components.
