A bumper beam energy absorbing system (10) is disclosed for absorbing impact energy exerted on an automotive vehicle. The energy absorbing system (10) includes a rigid, structural impact beam (12), a decorative fascia (16),and an energy absorber (14) sandwiched between the impact beam (12) and fascia (16). The impact beam (12) is adapted to attach the energy absorber to the vehicle while the fascia (16) decoratively covers and conceals the energy absorber (14). The energy absorber (14) is comprised of layers of cell panels (20). Each cell panel (20) is extruded into an open cell network in which interconnected closed loop cell walls define a plurality of open cells, thereby creating the network. The cross-section of the cells (22, 22’) in one cell panel may differ to adjust the amount of energy absorbed by a particular section of the panel. Likewise, the overall open cell network may vary between the layers, thereby adjusting the amount of energy absorbed by each particular layer.

The mounting structure permits selective repositioning of the end module assembly in a longitudinal, vertical and transverse direction relative to the partially completed motor vehicle whereby the fascia is alignable with respect to the remaining portions of the vehicle body assembly prior to secure engagement of the end module to the partially completed motor vehicle.

The framing network includes lower support framing network supported on and removably coupled to the mounting bracket, an integral framing network (32) in mating engagement with and removably coupled to the lower support framing network, and a reflective framing network (52) in mating engagement with and removably coupled to the integral framing network. The lighted running board further includes a generally horizontally extending translucent light emitting step pad removably secured to the framing network for providing an ingress and egress step to an occupant of the vehicle. The light emitting step pad forms at least one light housing chamber (70) between the light emitting step pad and the mounting cavity of framing network. A light source (72), such as an LED (74), is mounted in the mounting cavity of the framing network and housed within the light housing chamber for projecting light upwardly through said translucent portion of the light emitting step pad. the reflective framing network forms a plurality of reflective cavities overlaying the recessed mounting cavities for reflecting light from the light source towards the light emitting step pad.

A first light source is coupled at the wide end to transmitted light longitudinally through the body portion toward the redirecting facets. The redirecting facets having reflective surfaces transverse to the planar front illumination surface to reflect and scatter the light toward the front surface in a relatively low intensity light distribution. A second light source is coupled adjacent the back portion behind the intermediate areas. The optics elements transmit the light directly through the intermediate areas toward the front surface in a relative high intensity light distribution. The optics elements may also include concave, convex and/or facet for shaping the direct light toward the front illumination surface.

La base et la pièce couvrante s'emboîtent l'un dans l'autre, la pièce couvrante présentant des dispositifs de retenue (70) sur sa face interne, et la base possédant des dispositifs de retenue (62) qui permettent d'engager les dispositifs de retenue de la pièce couvrante sa face externe. La face interne de la base est fixée au véhicule au moyen d'une bande adhésive double face (162).
