A shelf-stable device for transdermally administering an active pharmaceutical to a patient. The device includes a drug reservoir (16) that contains the drug formulation. In one preferred embodiment of the present invention, the drug reservoir (16) is sandwiched between an upper (18) and a lower (20) solvent barrier film that are made from a material such as a polyester that will not absorb the drug and/or skin permeating enhancing solvent, if any, contained within the reservoir. The drug reservoir and solvent barrier films are encapsulated within a hermetically-sealed compartment (22) that protects the drug formulation from common environmental factors such as water vapor, oxygen, and light which can adversely affect the stability and efficacy of the drug formulation. The hermetically-sealed (22) compartment also prevents the drug formulation from coming into contact with and possibly dissolving the adhesive used to secure the device to the patient's skin. In another particularly preferred embodiment of the present invention, the device's drug reservoir is encapsulated within a hermetically-sealed compartment that is made from (combined) solvent/environment barrier films (70) that serve the dual functions of preventing the device's components from absorbing the drug/solvent formulation from the reservoir, and protecting the drug/solvent formulation from common environmental factors.

A topical dressing is manufactured from a strip-shaped assembly of dressing structures. Each such structure has an aperture (9) to receive a topical treatment substance (20) bounded on one side by a layer of skin adhesive (7) protected by a peel-off backing paper (8) and sealed on its other side by a foil strip (1). The adhesive layer (7) may be carried on a strip of microporous material (10) which is secured to the foil (1). The aperture (9) may be sealed after insertion of the topical substance (20) by a second foil strip (18) which is secured peripherally to the first foil strip (1). The first foil strip (1) may be perforated (15) to permit easy release of the portion of foil supporting the substance (20) and the adhesive coated material (7) so that this can then be bonded to the skin.

A medical dressing for covering skin abrasions or lacerations in the form of a bandaging material (10), preferably a single layer of porous, non-woven polyester, having a prossure-sens'rtive adhesive on one surface in marginal areas (12) about the periphery thereof, with a central area (14) free of such adhesive. The dressing is provided in pre-cut sizes with a removable sheet of release liner (16) shaped to cover at least the adhesive-coated areas.

The current invention concerns a multi-layer adhesive tape to compress and contract one or more scars, comprising: ‒ a top layer (4); ‒ a bonding layer (3) adjacent to said top layer (4); ‒ a bottom layer (2) adjacent to said bonding layer (3) and opposite to said top layer (4); ‒ an adhesive layer (1) adjacent to said flexible bottom layer (2) and opposite to said bonding layer (3); and ‒ a first peelable liner (7) at least adjacent to said adhesive layer (1) and opposite to said bottom layer (2), wherein the widths (L') of said top layer (4) and bonding layer (3) are larger than the widths (L) of said bottom layer (2) and adhesive layer (1), and wherein said adhesive layer (1) comprises a rubber-or acrylic-based pressure-sensitive adhesive. The invention further concerns a multi-layer adhesive tape to compress and contract one or more scars, wherein said top layer (4) has a thickness between 20 and 1100 µm.
